2 sided coin there. NIU is killing everyone they play. But who they play isn't exactly world-beaters.
So there's a fairness issue.Without a chance at a bigboy bowl, midmajors become pointless, and games become exhibitions. And people want to see what happens when dominant midmajors play top AQ teams, to settle months worth of shit-talking.
And on the other side of the coin, NIU got shithammered last year, as do the vast majority of midmajors who get BCS berths (although Bama and OU have humored a couple... Wisky too).
In the end, there's a responsibility to be fair, and there's also a responsibility to keep TVs tuned to the game after halftime.
Flip a coin, I guess.

No, they won't. Auburn can stop their bitching as soon as they see the 1 in the L column.Jsc810 wrote:If Florida State, Ohio State, and Auburn all win their next games, who should play in the championship game? No matter what, someone will have a legit reason to bitch.
FSU will get to butcher rape OSU if your scenario plays out.

I like the way you think... I think. :? :?Sudden Sam wrote: If Ohio State and FSU get thru their CCGs, they should play for it all. Obviously, if one loses, then Missouri should go.

But the B1G and ACC don't have nearly the high dollar TV deals that the SEC does. That should disqualify at least one of them, if not both.

People in other areas don't live in a blast furnace with nothing better to do all day Saturday than sit in front of the TV (I do it by choice, not necessity).
More people go to games? Try getting a seat to most PAC games. They're sold out.
But your take screams "SECBSH" from the mountaintops (that you can't ski down). Why should size of TV audience effect which teams play for the Trinket? The Southeast is densely populated... better pray that teams from the greater NY area don't start taking football more seriously, eh? Maybe you should rethink that utter silliness.

Not sure where you're getting that from.Dinsdale wrote:But the B1G and ACC don't have nearly the high dollar TV deals that the SEC does. That should disqualify at least one of them, if not both.
The Big Ten may have some issues right now, but TV money isn't one of them. With their partnerships with ESPN, the Big Ten Network and Fox, they bring in about $250 million a year, which is running with the big boys. The SEC actually had pretty pedestrian deals for a while, but they're about to surpass everybody. I don't know what the chasm will be between them and the Big 10/Pac 12, but I don't suspect it will be that great.

I just couldn't let this statement slide by. There's really not a big enough sample size to produce a "vast majority" of anything, but non-AQs actually have a winning record in BCS bowls. They're 5-3 (or 4-2 if you disregard the year the elitists made BSU and TCU play each other to avoid seeing both of them knock off an AQ team).Dinsdale wrote:And on the other side of the coin, NIU got shithammered last year, as do the vast majority of midmajors who get BCS berths (although Bama and OU have humored a couple... Per Wikipedia:
Five "non-AQ" teams have appeared in the seven following BCS games:
2005 Fiesta Bowl: Utah (MWC) defeated Pittsburgh (Big East) 35–7
2007 Fiesta Bowl: Boise State (WAC) defeated Oklahoma (Big 12) 43–42 in overtime
2008 Sugar Bowl: Hawaiʻi (WAC) lost to Georgia (SEC) 41–10
2009 Sugar Bowl: Utah (MWC) defeated Alabama (SEC) 31–17
2010 Fiesta Bowl: Boise State (WAC) defeated TCU (MWC) 17–10
2011 Rose Bowl: TCU (MWC) defeated Wisconsin (Big Ten) 21–19
2013 Orange Bowl: Northern Illinois (MAC) lost to Florida State (ACC) 31-10

Re: who should play for the crystal football?
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio believes that no matter which team wins the Big Ten title Saturday, the winner should be considered for a berth in the Vizio BCS National Championship.
No. 2 Ohio State is favored over the No. 10 Spartans, and if the Buckeyes were to win to finish a second straight season undefeated -- Urban Meyer's squad would be an understandable pick to play for the national title.
Dantonio agrees with that sentiment.
"I do believe, should Ohio State win, that they should represent in the national championship game," Dantonio said. "I think that when you have an undefeated football team, that's the right thing to do. ... That's my tip of the hat to Ohio State."
Meyer has refused to enter into public debate about whether his team deserves to play for the national title. On Monday he said he might have something to add to the conversation after Saturday's game.
"I'll have a comment on Sunday," Meyer said. "We have to play a game. For someone to ask about something after this game, I mean, that's cheating our football team.
Dantonio also said he doesn't understand why the Spartans wouldn't be in contention for a spot in the title game if they were to beat the Buckeyes, assuming other chips fell in their favor as well.
"Why not us, if certain scenarios take place, which obviously last weekend you saw a lot of scenarios take place," Dantonio said. "There are no givens in college football. Anybody can rise up to beat someone else. That ball bounces a lot of different ways.
"The fact of the matter is we're 11-1 right now, we're playing in a championship environment. And we'll move from there. Don't limit yourself. Dream big. That's what I tell my football team."
Any title game scenario for the Spartans would include them jumping eight spots in the BCS standings -- requiring not only a win over the Buckeyes but also several other highly ranked teams losing in their conference championship games.
Outside of Michigan State's loss to then-No. 22 Notre Dame, the Spartans have played only one other Top 25 team heading into the Big Ten title game. On Nov. 2, the Spartans beat the then-No. 21 Wolverines 29-6.
