OT: Carolina people, help?

Post by King Crimson »

i'm going to be at the US Open at Pinehurst and the old man and i will be flying into Raleigh/Durham. I have a little nostalgia for the area since i started a PhD program at Duke but due to family issues had to withdraw and re-start at Colorado. but, i'm semi-familiar with Chapel Hill and Durham.

How far is the airport from both Chapel Hill and the Duke campus. i drove out there from Colorado, so i don't know where the airport is. Also, i ate at a fried chicken place in Chapel Hill (years ago, not on the Duke experience tour) that was local famous...and in old style house with a walk up porch. if that rings any bells, what's the name of that place?

any help would be appreciated, or a good place to get pulled pork BBQ.

The RDU airport is in Morrisville which is (to the center of each city), 20 miles from Chapel Hill, 15 miles from Durham and 10 miles to Raleigh. Give or take a couple of miles.

The restaurant you're probably talking about is called Mama Dip's.

I wish I still lived in the Triangle. I went to the Open in '99 and loved it. Have fun!

I was always partial to Red Hot & Blue for a pulled chicken/pork sammich.

thanks RF.

yeah, i'm really looking forward to the Open. my dad is a USGA rules official at pretty all of them...so we'll have some sweet USGA/corporate "hospitalty" type access passes. i've been to the PGA a couple times at Southern Hills and Oak Tree in Oklahoma, but never the US Open.

i'm really looking forward to seeing Pinehurst #2 in person.
