I'm still using a 20" Craftsman 2.8 amp Bushwhacker my father-in-law handed down to me over 20 years ago.

The power cords are a pain in the ass, but free and long-lasting always wins.

Screw those gas powered jobs. I'm electric and can do all mine with 50 feet of extension cord that keeps getting shorter all the time, if you know what I mean. I had one hedge that required me to use a ladder. Ended up chopping them down so that can be done easily on foot. I don't do ladders anymore. My western property line is mostly Eugenia hedge (living fence). Down here during the summer, all of them need to be done about once a month.
BTW--I hope you use heavy gloves when operating one. Someone told me you can cut up your fingers badly if you get careless.

I've got a gas powered Stihl HS 45.

I need a little more beef than most electric units have. Extension cords just get in the way, and I'd need a couple hundred feet to reach everything.

It does start to get a little heavy after a couple of hours, though.

I would think a greenie hippy like you would use an electric one, especially with all that free electricity the rest of us bought you.

Why do you hate the planet so?

I may live in a desert but I still have plenty of green shit to keep under control.

The gas hedge trimmer, string trimmer, lawn tractor and chain saw are all among my best friends.

Plus, I prefer to do the work myself, instead of hiring it out it out to the local Spanish speaking work force, unlike most of my neighbors.

Guess what, moron. You can trim a lot more than "hedges" with a hedge trimmer.

I wouldn't expect you to know that, though, as somebody who probably has never had a yard larger than the deck outside your condo's "breakfast nook".

You just keep kicking your own ass. Come back when you actually have a yard to maintain.
hedge: a fence or boundary formed by closely growing bushes or shrubs.
For your future reference, I use the hedge trimmer on any bush, tree, shubbery or other plant that needs trimming. When I get to branches that are too large for the hedge trimmer I start up the chain saw. Several times a year I'll spend most of a weekend on this stuff, and yes it (trimmer and chain saw) does get heavy after a while.

The trimmer only weighs about 5 lb, but try holding a 5 lb weight straight out from your body for 10 or 15 minutes. I doubt you could manage even that.

Midget, since you suck at this messageboard thing, I'll help you out...

You're going to need something more powerful than a gas hedgetrimmer, because the force at which you just jammed your foot up your ass resulted in some pretty deep penetration.

But good job exposing the fact you've never done yardwork in your life, yet saw fit to lecture others who have.

Just eject, you're clowning hard.

You dig ditches for a living. I get it. I get that that means you think you know everything about like hard work and stuff. However, I can assure you that only an idiot trims bushes with a hedge trimmer in SD in 2014 for hours at a time. There are too many plants that you don't have to be a slave to that you can plant to being doing that stupid shit.

You don't need concrete and there are plenty of better ways to work up a sweat (even in the garden.) He lives in SD. Most people with brains plant things that are native or at least drought resistant. Most DR plants liked to be hacked to the ground from time to time and let go for the rest of the year because in the wild they get burned to the ground every year or so.

So you are one of those dummies who trims aralia or salvia into a box instead of trimming it right so it flowers properly huh? Bet you don't even have an ozonator on that pool in your backyard.

You obviously don't have much knowledge of the variety of native plants available in California.

You might try looking here, a society that I've been a paying member of for about 7 or 8 years.

http://www.cnps.org/

And I do have about half a dozen varieties of salvia growing in my yard. How many do you have? Most of them are finished blooming for this year but the Salvia clevelandii Winifred Gilman are really pretty spectacular right now.

Also several varieties of native ceanothus, arctostaphylos, eriogonum, cercidium, romneya, quercus, platanus racemosa, and a bunch of other smaller stuff. The hedge trimmer works quite well with many of these, especially some of the ceanothus.

Want to try again?
