You can argue whether or not going into Iraq was a wise thing. Personally, I think going in was wise. What we did after we got there....not so much.

That being said, deserting the fukking place was weapons grade stupid. Imagine it is the fall of 1945 and Truman announces that since the war is over, every last allied troop would be out of Europe by Christmas. Only a fukking imbecile would have thought that a good idea.

Would staying in Iraq have been difficult?

Probably.

But, given a strong presence and an absolute certainty that we weren't going anywhere, we could have unfukked that place. This was the whole point of going in there in the first place. The whole WMD dog and pony show was used as a reason, because simply unfukking the sordid clambake was not a politically viable reason, unfortunately. The middle east needs unfukking and Iraq was at the heart of it. It would have also given us the ability to influence Iran.

I'll bet the Kuwaitis are a little nervous right about now. They know goddamn well that we won't help them the next time they get run over.
