With the torque a decent sized (not very large) electric motor produces they'd have to put some kind of soft starter on it, or a seat belt, or you'd fall of the back every time you juiced it.

I think Average Joe doesn't understand the dynamic of electric motors, in that they essentially produce the same torque at 10 RPM as 10,000 RPM.

Haven't found a number on torque, but supposed to do 0-60 in under 4... not too shabby.

130 mile range sucks, but recharges quickly.

I guess something like this would be practical for commuting to work and such.

Here Out West, many rest areas have charging stations (still lots of free electricity available for EVs, but that will eventually change). The article I read (which may or may not be the one linked here) said 30-60 minutes to recharge, which would be doable.

I still wouldn't want to get that far from home with an iffy power source.

True about the noise sound. I was spooked by an electric car coming up behind me in the G-store parking lot the other day. Couldn't hear it. I recall that the makers of the kid's Hot Wheels tryke added a noise maker so people would be more alert to it.

The roar of the Harley engine is one of those things that hopefully gets them to notice you so they don't merge right over you while they're updating their facebook

If you're relying on engine sounds for safety, you're not riding safely.

One should ALWAYS consider themselves invisible on a bike... ALWAYS. While situations such as the risk of being merged into will occasionally happen, safe riding involves keeping those situations to a bare minimum, and should be kept as brief as possible.

Of all my concerns about electric motorcycles, the lack of noise isn't one of them.

Dins: don't think anyone is saying we should rely on sound alone. It does add another factor in riding safety. We have a lot of folks on metal steeds down here and sometimes my awareness is caught off guard until I hear them. The "kids" zipping in and out of lanes of traffic on their crotch rockets are a big concern, older dudes on Harleys not so much.

Around here, ricerockets account for just about every fatal crash. Never see a Harley or Beemer rider getting offed.

Come on, the safety angle isn't why anyone rides 'em. If you were so concerned with safety, you wouldn't be on one of those death traps to begin with. That's like when hunters say they shoot deer for population control.

The only time I ever hear any bike when I'm on the road (which is frequently) is after he's whizzed by me...at which point it's moot anyway.

The dude that hit the deer over at Fossil last summer, and one up on the Santiam last year as well, were on Harleys. The one at Springfield last week was on a Kawsucki. Note the pool of blood on the ground there.

They are still looking for the 2nd car that was involved in this wreck.

One of the main reasons electric has been the tractive power for locomotives for the last 60 years or more.
