I had the opportunity to be part of a movie that was filming here in SA over the past 8 days. It is the story of Freddie Stienmark a DB on the 1969 UT National Championship team. He played the '69 season with bone cancer in his leg which went undiagnosed until after the Arkansas game. A week later his leg was amputated. Two years later he passed away.
The movie is privately financed and was written and directed by the guy who did Rudy and Hoosiers. This apparently removes the Hollywood studios and allows for more accurate scenes. Coach DKR is played by Aaron Eckhart who was a pretty cool guy. Freddie was played by at least three people, the star being Finn Whitrock. The other two guys stood in for him in the football scenes since he couldn't even fake a limp much less catch a football. Justin Street is playing the QB role of his father James Street. Jordan Shipley, Colt and Case McCoy and 5 other NFlers were involved in the football action. Plus about 45 former NCAA players from OU, ATM, CSU, Air Force and Baylor made up the rest of the non speaking role players.
I played an official strangely enough. We filmed for a week in the Alamodome recreating the Arkansas vs Texas game. Then we moved to a local HS stadium for three days of filming UT home games from the '69 season.
I learned a ton about filming movies. Cut in Hollywood means lie down. Time between takes can be an hour as cameras are moved, make up is redone, scenes are changed, uniforms are changed etc, etc, etc. Then after multiple takes the paid actors are switched in to do the close up shots.
All in all it was a fun experience to meet a bunch of great former players and see how a movie was made. Scheduled release is Dec/Jan and I will let you know what positions I worked closer to release date. That way if I make it into the final version you guys can have a field day with it.
Pretty sure that was my last movie, not sure what other "special talent" I have that a movie production might want to film. The pay wasn't bad at $300 per day but the downtime and boredom factor was high. I did find a job that many on this board might qualify for though, extra. It pays $58 per day and includes breakfast and lunch for sitting in the stands. Prolly beats mopping jizz I am guessing.

Great. Next thing you know JtR will be flying planes.
Re: My All American
Oh, where to begin.
BTW -- Rudy had a different writer and director.

Yes, they obviously care a lot about accuracy.
Uhm, yeah. I believe the new Transformers was financed by the US government?Left Seater wrote:The movie is privately financed
One of the best unintentional funnies I've read here in a long time.written and directed by the guy who did Rudy... This apparently... allows for more accurate scenes.

Re: My All American
Ok, so I could have done a better job writing that and you could make a few less assumptions.
The private financing, meaning outside of Hollywood studios, some of whom are publicly traded, leads to the accuracy.
I never said the guy who wrote and directed this film both wrote and directed Rudy.
