Canada is on the ropes

Post by Captain Haddock »

Real ugly game. The CR is pushing Canada around. They stole the Canadian game plan.

The crowd is hostile..and Canada looks tired.

It looks bleak.

Boom

Canada loses the gold medal game 3-0

Man, did Jagr & Kubina ever have great games.

Ryan Smyth is a moron. This guy has zero leadership qualities.

Rat Pack appearance in 3..2..

Honestly, I never did understand what everyone saw in him.
He reminds me of a young Doug Riseborough, a good player but not one you'd call a captain.

Ryan Smyth is 29 years old... not exactly a young Doug Risebrough anymore.

But the Edmonton Oiler hype-machine has always been strong with Ryan Smyth. He's nothing more than a pretty good mucker with a really nice mullet that allows him to fit in when tooling around the 'chuk in his 1985 Camaro.

But at least the Team Canada reps finally figured out that Eric Brewer doesn't belong on their team. Now we just gotta find a way to get Jovonovski and his bad pinches and poorly-timed penalties off Team Canada.

Honestly, the whole team seemed to lack much heart, motivation, what-have-you. I'm surprised they did as well as silver. Maybe it was the coaching. Habscheid could have been in over his head with pros.

If you have more than two Ottawa Senators on your team, you are bound to lose.

Now I know you're just being partisan...but I thought Wade Redden had a decent tourney.

Rick Nash may be an incredible player...but he is hot-headed and prone to meltdowns. Personally, I thought he should have got a game for his "abuse of an official".

Smyth's chopping at Jiri Fischer's ankles was a disgrace. The laughable part was Gord Miller & Pierre Maguire trying to fault Volkoun for coming to the aid of Fischer. Props to Fischer for not diving or even wilting under that insane ankle attack. Hey Maguire, Fischer looked like a monster.

Wade Redden is a serviceable defensemen, but the book on him is to pressure him when he has the puck and he coughs it up everytime.

What I meant was comparible to Risebrough at the same age, before his points totals tailed off towards the end of his career.

Rack!
See above.

Brewer yes, I agree with you but Jovo, if paired with the right partner is still a player I'd want on my team. I'd take him over Robin Regher.

That was my concern all along.. they didn't have a Sakic or Yzerman type of veteran leadership. Habscheid did alright, but I think he might not have been as prepared as say a Quinn or Hitchcock would have been.
I'd consider this year a learning experience for him. He'll get it right next time.

Regehr and Jovanovski are totally different players though. They bring different things to the table. Regehr will never be much of an offensive threat, but he's rock solid in his own end. Jovanovski is a high-risk, high-reward kind of guy. You just hope he causes more goals in the other end than your own.

I know Robyn Regehr's game, and that wasn't it in the World Championships either. He's gotta be one of the many players who are rusty after a year of not playing.
