What was the name of the woman at UT, possibly VP or faculty head, who was funneling school money to her craft or furniture business? Sort of important. Thanks.

Thanks, I think this happened within the last two years or so. This woman had spending authority at UT and she was spending tons of school money on shit at her own business, I think it was furniture and crafts. Not only did she claim to not know this was unethical (and against school bylaws over a certain threshold) but she ended up spending hundreds of thousands of dollars over that threshold.

There is a lot going on between the Board of Regents, President Bill Powers and the governor. Lots to write about, but almost all of it has been done before including stories by the NYT.


The governor gets to make appointments to the Board of Regents and our current gov, is one of the longest serving ever. He was also a cheerleader at ATM. As such his appointments to the UT BOR has included Aggies. This hasn't sat well with some UT Alumni and has led to fighting. President Powers has survived three attempts by the Head of the Regents to remove him. It is a hot mess, but has nothing to do with the above link at the largest Black school in Texas.

If you haven't seen the speech Adm McRaven made to the spring grads you should watch it as it went a long way to him getting a ton of support for the position.

Thanks. McRaven taking over at UT isn't the type of stuff I write about, I just thought it was interesting. I thought, like Gates, it's usually the other way around, going from president of a major school to a major civilian defense position. How often does a chief of a combatant command end up heading a major university system?

My initial impression was that McRaven wouldn't be the type to allow this woman, Priscilla Slade, to be aided and abetted in her corruption. And I'm sure it won't happen on his watch.

Not sure that's going to help with this problem. But a lot of the full service salons could do it. I'd suggest calling ahead to see if they service men, but I'm not convinced that's pertinent in your case.

You want to know why some schools want a flag combat officer in such a position take a field trip to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. They do tours there and I spent a good bit of time there while in grad school at Pitt.
