Pretty sad story here. Started last night. I listened to it all on the radio as it went down and again this morning. 4 people drowned in one spot. There are free life jackets posted at several spots, they had to walk right by one of them. You just cannot help some people.
This is about 2 miles as the crow flies from my compound. This arm of the lake is one of my favorite fly fishing spots. I usually go up there at least once a week. The biggest news so far this week was that a new state and potential national record small mouth was caught by some neck on the bank of this lake yesterday. Pretty hard on the first responders. One of my friends was the chief officer on scene last night.

Your "compound"?
What, do you have another Ruby Ridge going on there? Branch Davidians?
WHAM !!!! I scream " Fish on" as I throw the weight to the rod and set the hook. Since I was expecting the usual anti freedom mocking bullshit that is directed at those of us who are prepared to defend ourselves and are prepared to live for months on end with out going to town or the store, I trolled that word out there for someone to pickup on. Very observant and astute of you Wags, you took it all the way.
And not, I do not have a compound, just 5 beautiful acres of Western Oregon, with my closest neighbors 100 yards away and nothing but farm and woods behind me for 800 acres.

Huh. Most first responders I know groove on the death and destruction that goes hand-in-glove with the job. In my experience, that's one of the primary reasons people get into the work, not because of the white knight syndrome that is commonly believed to be their motivation. In terms of gross tonnage of hurt, dead, and injured people, the more, the merrier is the rule.
