No shit. Anyone who has spent even a modicum of time watching this program knows this. If it is just now becoming a realization to the Board of Regents, they are completely Cal'd.

Manuel was a HUGE Bo Schembechler recruit from New Orleans in the mid 80′s who injured his neck and retired from football as a Wolverine. He spent many years in the Michigan Athletic Department after his injury and was highly regarded before he left for The AD position at University of Buffalo. He hired Turner Gill at Buffalo and along with Gill they achieved Buffalo’s first winning record and post season bid in 2008, since the program went D-1 in 1999. While winning on the field, Manuel also increased revenue at Buffalo from $11 million to $25 million in 3 years. He knows both sided of the business. He is currently the Athletic Director at UCONN.

Here we go. First link to Bo. Gill appears to have caught lightning in a bottle in 2008 so if that is the feather in his cap as far as hires go, they should probably just skip over it. He also just hired former ND DC Bob Diaco to take over for UConn. If you guys haven't met Bob, you should:

The second name in the Michigan AD equation is Brad Bates, the current AD at Boston College. Brad Bates, who Bo Schembecher thought would make a great Michigan AD in “Bo’s Lasting Lessons,” leaves Miami (NTM) for Boston College, according to the BC school paper The Heights. Bates played under Bo from 1977 to 1981 as a walk-on DB. I know less about Bates than Manuel, but he appears to be a solid candidate.

"I know less about Bates than Manuel, but he appears to be a solid candidate." Based on what, Gregg? The fact that he played under Bo and he thought the guy would make a good AD? If this is your or their criteria, you guys deserve to wallow in the abyss of mediocrity.

But here comes the first of two hilarious statements:

If either one of these gentlemen is hired, the road to a Harbaugh gets much more probable. Both Harbaugh brothers and Miles would take the Michigan job under the stewardship of Bates or Manuel, none of them would come to Michigan under Brandon, so change is imminent.

Does he not know the difference between probable and possible? The road may get more possible, but it is never going to be probable. Probable is "likely to be the case or to happen." It is not likely that either Harbaugh or Miles will take the UofM job.

There are other possibilities for the AD job, but Manuel and Bates are the two front runners as I write this, the other candidates are impressive as well.

If these two guys are the front runners, color me unimpressed. The biggest accomplishment that they have on their resume is this link to some Michigan created myth about Bo Schembechler. Which leads me to this:

People who talk about "inside information" blow my mind. They don't know shit anymore. Being an insider isn't like the 80s, or even like 2004, now. Unless you're dropping seven figures every year or eight at a time you don't know shit anymore. Twitter has killed that era of athletics or even with a university at all.

You know what being an "insider" is now? You know a month before the university kicks off a major fund raising campaign so that you can be one of the assholes who lines your friends up to sign $1-10k checks.

UM's problems run deep.

Brandon needs to go, there's no question about that. It all starts at the top. A very underrated but vital aspect of a successful cfb program is a head coach, the AD, and administration/school prez all being in simpatico. I would put this dynamic as reason #1 why MSU has been successful over the past few years. UM has not had this in some time. Even their president came out recently and minimized the importance of football at UM.

Brandon is a smart guy but he is trying to ply his one-dimensional set of marketing skills to the AD position and he's failed miserably. He's all about gimmicks and style over substance. He has pissed off a lot of loyal alums, ticket holders, and he's far too meddling (sitting on film session with coaches, etc).

As for Hoke, he seemed like a great "cultural fit" at the time, considering his ties to UM and his philosophies football-wise. But as it turns out, he lacks leadership skills and doesn't develop players. He's sloppy looking, bumbles when he speaks, doesn't exude confidence, and tries too hard to appease his fan base with all the contrived angst like "Ohio", etc.

Frankly, UM needs to get away from the whole "Michigan Man" angle. Hoke comes in with his "This is Michigan" sense of entitlement, and those star-studded recruits get indoctrinated with all of that stuff from the get-go. They need to instill motivation and work ethic, not ego and superiority.

more like 30 years mine should say...lost a decade there....but, my dad and his buddies bankrolled the golf program all through the 80's, won a national championship...got the course redesigned, made it a respectable track to one of the better public access facilities in the region. but they just keep asking. anyway, this is all way off topic.

michigan needs to hire the best football coach who will say "yes"....this michigan man, bo stuff is charmingly old world but because richrod is a dick doesn't mean they should turtle up under Bo's bedsheets to smell his farts. get some real people assigned to the task, do a competent search and hire someone/anyone that can stop the bleeding. all this country club university admin type nostalgia crap ain't getting it done anymore.
