Akron's stadium is practically brand new (built in '09 I think) and is pretty nice, I've seen it up close. Maybe the game day atmosphere sucks but by no means does it deserve to be ranked #1.
Eastern Michigan got robbed of the top spot. They were so close to getting it right.

Re: Worst College Stadiums
While funny, this list is screwed up. Is it the crappy stadiums or crappy atmospheres that matter most?
Rack the MAC taking up much of the top 10. Central's stadium is pathetic. Akron's stadium is brand new and beautiful, don't see how it ends up #1 when BSU Stadium is #2 and a much older stadium.

Terry Bowden is coaching Akron.
'nuff said.

Re: Worst College Stadiums
i'd say 20,000 for North Texas is pretty good. commuter school in interstate culture north texas....there are a lot of friday/saturday options for football fans in texas. statement about CSU competing with CU as best in the state in the beta era is a bit off. the Rams were good to very good (legit top 25 team)....for 5-6 years in the mid/late 90's. beta is early 80's. though i would agree Hughes Stadium belongs on or near this list. it's nowhere near campus, small capacity, and the Rams never fill it. they are in a controversial fund raising drive for an on-campus stadium, fwiw. the ad promised it, then quit. so, they are stuck mid-process for a stadium that it's unclear if they need or want. if CSU had any real fan support...coming off some pretty good years....they might have been in the Big XII. might have. as it stands, no way. they bring nothing to the table. as antagonistic as the Denver media has always been to CU and Boulder, they give CSU constant pet gloves and rah rah and still no one cares. most invisible fan base i've ever seen. you rarely see CSU gear out and around Denver.
small teams playing in big stadiums (UTSA), etc....always going to be a bad environment. Duke, Nwestern....sure, private school at about 13,000 total enrollment with a national alum base....and instate state schools also playing....never gonna be rowdy pageantry. Vandy is like that. Dudley Field is great place for visiting fans in the local area (grads of other SEC schools working in Nashville)....and most students don't care too much.
list seems to be a compilation of asymmetrical situations and such. i always thought the NWestern stadium seems like a sensible piece of architecture.
i'd rather see a list of smaller, great stadiums.

Re: Worst College Stadiums
This is really a who cares to me.
Had they included 2008 in their criteria we finish much higher if not off the list completely. In 2008 we went 10-2 and 6-0 at home. Reverse both those numbers in 2009. Bowl bids in 3 of the last 6 seasons.
We are always going to end up on these type of lists because our stadium has more than 14 seats for each student. But the game day environment is great for fans and players alike. The stadium is in a great area with tons of restaurants within walking distance, lots of bars as well. The city skyline rises over the corner of the stadium and from Oct on it is very comfortable to sit outside and watch a game.
Plus very few college stadiums have the history ours does. Hosted SuperBowl VIII, had three separate college teams play home games there, had NFL games there, was the site of JFK's "moon" speech.

If you read the article, much of the ranking is based on your chances of seeing a home loss.Papa Willie wrote:What about Boise State or Eastern Washington? Seems like one would only come away from those 2 places with visual hangovers...
Pretty rare for either of those teams to lose at home.
And I'll let you in on a secret -- Eastern Washington isn't in FBS.

Akron does have some nice facilities...I think they associate MAC to shit...
by that rationale Southern Cal should be on here...ever been to a game live in the Coliseum? Fucking awful
