I did however sneak out of work early today so I could be home to see the first pitch... and the last.

It sounded like the 4th of July around here after that. KC loves their Royals.

They are the cardiac Cards for a reason, but this thing just feels over at this point. If any team can come back from the 3-1 deficit, it is St. Louis. It's what they do. I'm keeping hope alive for now, but the Giants are just rolling, momentum is on their side and it's going to take some serious gut checks and plain old-fashioned good luck for the Red Birds to advance.

Since 1991 ( the last year Kansas City drew 2M+ attendance), the Royals have staggered along at a blistering .433 pace, a string of futility that could only be stewarded by the likes of such stellar baseball minds as Tony Pena, Tony Muser, and Trey Hillman. Included during this breath-takingly horrible run was nine, 90+ loss seasons; four, 100+ loss seasons; and no division finish higher than third place - until last year. Toss in an uncaring, cheap-ass, skin-flint, payroll-gutting out-of-town owner interested only in turning a profit (he did, even with shit attendance), and you have the recipe for running off a once proud fanbase.

But to your point: Given that nobody in this town under the age of 35 has any collective memory of the Royals being good, much less contending, I find it remarkable that the Royals have drawn as well as they have the past 23 years.

I was visiting a girl in Mission Bay... and as I crossed into the China Basin I could see the Stadium a couple blocks away from the outfield and the bay. It was around the 3rd inning. It's hell getting through "the City"... with the SalesForce Convention going on here, but I made it back over the Golden Gate to catch the 7th inning til now.

Monster homer by Morris in the bottom of the 8th ! Ta tie the game.
