"Elimination" weekend
There are at least three huge de-facto playoff elimination games this Saturday. Who you got and who are you pulling for?
3:30 ET #10 Notre Dame at #9 Arizona State
ASU feels like a paper tiger to me. You can't get blown at home to UCLA and expect to be taken seriously. However they have played well since that game, especially their defense. ND has already played on a big stage at FSU so I don't think the away factor will be a huge deal. I like ND to squeak one out here due to edge in QB play, but I will be rooting for the Sun Devils as an ND loss is more beneficial to my team.
7:30 ET #7 Kansas State at #6 TCU
I've only seen bits and pieces of both of these teams. Boykin has turned into a very solid QB but I watched him make an awful lot of boneheaded mistakes against WVU. He can't do that against a very disciplined KSU defense. I just think TCU has more horses and of course home field advantage. I like TCU by 7 but I'm pulling for K-State big time as I view TCU as the bigger threat down the line and K-State still has a potential loss or two with games @ WVU and @ Baylor.
8:00 ET #14 Ohio State at #8 Michigan State
I still don't have a great feel for this game because of the weather situation. A wet and sloppy field changes how the game is played and also has more potential for turnovers and flukey plays that could be the difference in what should be a close game. But generally speaking, I always like the home team going against an inexperienced QB. MSU's front will get to Barrett and force mistakes. If the Spartans control clock, and win the TO battle, I like them to pull away and win by 10+.

I like
ASU - Kelly is back at QB...Foster is a load at RB, and they have Strong at WR who has been a stud all year.
KSU - That old codger Bill Synder will have something cooked up...
OSU - fuck MSU...OSU can spread the ball around to more playmakers this year and don't discount the "revenge" angle yeah it might be cliched but you know the players want another crack at them...non shitty track OSU 38 Sparty 31...shitty track OSU 21 Sparty 17
swhat I got

Re: "Elimination" weekend
I will root for ND. Sorry Killian, but I would like to see them win out and be left out.
In the KSU vs TCU game, I really don't know what to think. I still am not sold on WVU being much of anything, hell they needed a last second FG to beat a horrible Tech team. That said, WVU gave TCU all they could handle. TCU seems to play to their opponent see the wild Baylor game vs the WVU game. KSU does what they always have done. Good defense with a mediocre offense. Weather will not be a factor as it will be 60s and clear which would seem to help TCU. I will root for TCU but see this as a close game. If the combined score is over 60 TCU wins, under that and KSU wins.
I have no insight on the OSU vs MSU game so I will go with my rooting interest of OSU.

Re: "Elimination" weekend
1. While Notre Dame does worry me, I've been watching the Sun Devils all year, and the UCLA game was an aberration and they hadn't played like that before, nor since. I like Kelly at QB, but I would prefer to see Bercovici start, as Kelly is still showing some rust. I'm taking ASU in a close game, which comes down to special teams play and a big game from Foster.
2. Like ASU, I've seen a lot of TCU this year and they are for real. This is a good match up, but I still like TCU at home.
3. Michigan State at home. Again, a close game, but I think the elements play to the Spartans favor at home, though it could go either way. No favorite here, just a gut feeling.

Don't have to apologize to me. I know that if they win out they have a very small shot at making the playoffs.Left Seater wrote:I will root for ND. Sorry Killian, but I would like to see them win out and be left out.
As for that game, take ASU all day. ND historically plays like dog shit the week following Navy. Pretty sure ASU will win this game straight up.

Re: "Elimination" weekend
For the record the ND thing for me is all the T-Shirt catholic fans here who know zero about college football but love them some ND.
I heard someone else say the same thing about ND following the Navy week. Any ideas why that might be? I get that preparing for Navy is a bit different than most, but since the game was close do you think that wakes them up some?

Re: "Elimination" weekend
I honestly have no idea. I hope so. That game was very close to being a blowout. Golson threw that pick as they were driving to go up 35-7 just before half. Instead, Navy made it a game, the starters had to play the whole way and people got hurt. Such is football.
The Navy hangover has been around for about 10 years spanning 3 different coaches. But it’s not just ND. Look at OSU this year, they beat Navy and lose to a very mediocre VaTech team.
If ND wins that game, it will say a lot about where Kelly has this team headed.

Gonna be awfully tough for Barrett to get the ball to all those "playmakers" when he's getting face-planted into the cold Kentucky blue grass all night long. The only question is how many slices of cold pizza will Sad Urban consume post-game by himself somewhere in the bowels of Spartan Stadium. But at least if Dantonio (you know, the guy responsible for your last national championship) ruins his season for the second straight year, Urbz will have plenty of time to concoct some new fake health issues.

Notre Dame 36
Arizona State 25
Agree with Mgo here, despite ASU's recent turnaround since the UCLA shellacking, I'm still not sold on them. I think they're a flukey team. And Sun Devil Stadium won't be filled up until after halftime with the early start, so not much of a homefield advantage if you ask me. Not to mention, David Robinson knows all about spanking the local Phoenix squad and I have no doubt that he has passed on this craft to his son.
TCU 27
Kansas State 21
Haven't seen too much of KSU this year but know enough about Snyder-coached teams to know that they play solid ball. This will be a close game, my gut tells me that TCU will find a way to win late, though I'll be pulling for KSU. TCU will make the CFP, mark it down.
Ohio State 21
Michigan State 19
Close, tight game similar to 2012. Pressure on the QB will be key on both sides of the ball. If MSU's D rattles Barrett early and often, the MO for OSU's offensive coordinator is to get ultra conservo and call QB runs the rest of the game. That shit won't fly like it did vs Penn State. Conversely, OSU has been gradually improving on defense, especially on the d-line. This is not the same swiss cheese D from last year's B10 championship game. Anyways, much like 2012 I expect the game to be won by a big play in the 4th quarter. Either way, the B10 is fukked as far as the CFP is concerned, MSU winning out is probably the only way a slow, plodding team from the Midwest gets a sniff.
Other ELIMINATION game predictions:
Oklahoma 40
Baylor 29
Oregon 31
Utah 24
Alabama 24
LSU 14
Mississippi State 45
Tennessee (Martin) 3
Mississippi 45
Presbyterian 3
Arizona State 25

maybe they can stop in at Dominos since you know it's a _ichigan thing and all (sup Dave Brandon)
Yeah I know who Dantonio is...I also know the Walrus is helping call plays as well...that Dave shit works well against D LINES not named OSU...but if Purdue can hang with MSU so to can OSU no?
It should be a great game...last two have been awesome if you are a fan of either team...

If that offense scores 24 on Oregon, it's because the Ducks kicked the ball off to them 10 times (like last week). Utes have the best pass rush in the country, but that offense is horrific.
And if anyone wants to go broke, betting against LSU in a night game in BR is a great way to go about it.

Re: "Elimination" weekend
Bollman doesn't call the plays, Dave Warner does. Obviously as co-offensive coordinator, Bollman has his hand in things, but MSU's current offense doesn't really resemble the ol' Tressel Ball you were accustomed to in those days. Lots of jets sweeps, misdirection, and vertical passing attack. MSU doesn't go 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust nearly as much as people are led to believe based on past reputation or whatever. They are not Stanford or Wisconsin nor are they trying to be.buckeye_in_sc wrote:Yeah I know who Dantonio is...I also know the Walrus is helping call plays as well...that Dave shit works well against D LINES not named OSU...but if Purdue can hang with MSU so to can OSU no?
Every team has their "Purdue." For whatever reason the Boilers always give MSU their best punch. I never said OSU can't "hang" with MSU. I expect it to be a battle.
The OSU d-line vs the MSU o-line will be fun to watch. Bosa is an animal, but MSU has been excellent in pass protection all year so something will have to give.

2. Wouldn't a simple PM saying "hey man - come on, dude" have sufficed a little better than acting like a gaping, cock-licking pussy?
3. You post pictures and whatnot that under your definition = spam.
4. Continue your hissy. Who pissed in your butthole this afternoon?

Props to the Buckeyes. You got your revenge. MSU D got worked and exposed tonight. Was very impressed with Barrett and the OSU o-line. Weird how these games just don't go the way you'd think. Bosa and Lippett, the biggest playmakers, weren't really factors. Both offensive lines had their way, didn't see that coming either.

Rack You MGO and Sparty Fan...
whew...big game on the road...surprised that MSU neutralized Bosa that well...but...other guys stepped up and made plays. OSU OFFENSIVE LINE gets the helmet sticker for me along with JT (wow what a game)...they came up HUGE against a NASTY front 4...
should be fun down the stretch...
