The Fittest:
Alabama: win out and they're in.
Oregon: win out and they're in.
Florida State: a classic second half team.
Baylor/TCU: not impressed with TCU; Baylor with a tricky schedule to end the season.

The Wounded:
Mississippi State...have to become Auburn fans in a couple weeks.
Ohio State...needs to win out and root for a Big XII meltdown.

The Dead:
Arizona State...Pac-12 South is still for grabs but their CFP hopes are dead.

Auburn is the best W on Miss St's schedule.

I've explained my abstaining from the rankings -- will reek too much of homerism.

But...

1. FSU -- Based solely on record, since my eyeballs tell me any of the other top teams will likely trounce them.

2. Oregon -- Best resume' of the teams in consideration.

3. Bama -- Have played a bunch of VERY overrated teams, but the eyeballs tell me they're playing very well of late.

4 (Here's where it gets tough). -- Fuck if I know. It sure the fuck isn't Miss St. I guess I'll put TCU here, with their better body-of-work, although Baylor beat them.

5. tOSU -- kind of a cupcake schedule, but as the frosh QB has improved, so have the Bucs.

6. Miss St -- Have yet to impress me, but are a 1-loss in a competitive division.

7. Baylor -- I'd be more impressed if their defense had done... anything this season.

8. UGA -- not sure why I have them here, but they're a juggernaut when they're clicking on all cylinders.

9. UCLA -- 2 losses, but they play in one bitch of a division this year, and their PAC12 North slate was/is tough, with the 3 best teams in the North (1 of those still to play).

10. Fuck, who cares. I'll go with Michigan St.

I was going to get into the Gurlyman/Chubby thing in my post.

Chubb may indeed be an even better RB.

But UGA hasn't played against much of a defense since he took over.

I agree with you, Dins, that numerous teams in the top ten would trounce FSU. Oregon would be so far ahead by halftime that Winston's 2nd half heroics wouldn't come close to catching the Ducks. And Bama would shut the FSU offense down and win 17-7 or something like that.

Funny, in talking with all my CFB fanatic friends, and even random folks at the Beavs game, this seems to be a pretty universal opinion.

Hell, Auburn would beat them 112-72.

And I'm not convinced Georgia Tech won't remove FSU from the equation when all is said and done.

BTW -- Bama has beaten exactly 1 team that's in the AP rankings this week(and lost to 1 other). In case you missed that, the number is one. Oregon has beaten 3, (and lost to 1 other). I realize Bama has one decent game left (against a 3 loss team), after scheduling a patsy at an inexcusable point in the season. Auburn might drop out after losing to Bama, leaving you with ONE win over a ranked opponent. Unlikely any of Oregon's top-25 wins will drop out, and their tough games are out of the way (although taking the Beavs for granted when going into Corvallis is a huge mistake, and has been the downfall of many teams over the years. I'm glad it's not at night, since that's the recipe for doom).

What were you saying about body-of-work? Pretty easy call on that one, unless you view the world through Ball-Sucking-Glasses. They both trump FSU though, no debate on there.

Will never happen. Mariota doesn't play for western Carolina.

A team that has wins over ( Brevard and Catawba) and loses to ( Presbyterian and Samford).

It really doesn't get more pathetic than that.

What week is this ???

... and you should NEVER play teams that would get their "Ass Kicked" by a good high school team.

Of course, I'm talking about Alabama's vaunted schedule and game this week... yes, their game THIS week !!!

Alabama also played those OOC powerhouses called "Florida Atlantic and southern Mississippi"... really ???

The PAC would LOVE to take off 3 weeks a year... and collect their bye weeks.

Why is that ?

Is it because Alabama had close to half their games off this year and is more rested than most teams before Spring practice ?

Seriously, 8 home games and 4 OOC games ???

While I'm not defending scheduling FCS teams (Oregon had one this year, and it wasn't South Dakota -- Bama gets fat on them), maybe you should actually try and learn the first thing about FCS before commenting on it... is that too much to ask?

Sudden Sam wrote:[Oregon would no longer be in the playoff conversation if they'd played LSU, Mississippi, Missississpi State, West Virginia, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. Ranked or not, each of those teams could play with Oregon. 4 of 'em would shut down the Duck offense and 2 could score with them all day.

Ya'know, wouldn't it be nice if we had a better metric to compare conferences beyond mere speculation?

I wonder how we could do that?

Hey! I have an idea...

maybe the SEC could... play someone.

And Oregon would have rolled through that schedule just as easily as their own. In fact, in case you missed it -- Oregon has beaten 3 currently ranked teams, Bama has beaten 1... not sure which part of that you're struggling with?

One day, maybe Dins will take a look at the SOS ratings that aren't in his mind.
Do I really have to do search and show the hundred or so posts you made bashing the Sagarins?

But now they feed the BSH, so they're valid?

Again, it all goes back to financial interests overrating a certain conference before the season starts, which simply feeds the flawed system.

How has the SEC done against the PAC in the BCS era?

I'll give you a hint: .500 in the regular season... which is much better than the SEC fared against the Big East.

Yeah, it's not like in the 4 years prior to this one, the Ducks didn't average 35 a game on them, or anything.

and a mediocre SEC defense did it (Auburn).
Decided to kick your own ass, again?

Which players from the 2010 Ducks are on the current roster? Are you worried about what Cam Newton is going to do against Bama this year?

Will Scott Frost change his playcalling from that game?

But the funny part about this "argument" you banjo-pluckers try to make with this, is the sheer and utter stupidity.

You DO realize than the Ducks allowed a fraction of the points to Auburn that ANY SEC team did that season, right?

Right?

So, what does that say about the "vaunted" defenses of the SEC, and how inferior they are to PAC defenses?

Or were you planning on having that cake as well as eating it?

Apparently, Oregon would have shut out Bama that year.

Or, did maybe those teams approach that game a little differently? Take your time, and you might not sound so inbred in your second run at it.

Isn't the whole country?

Although you and I are far from the most neutral observers, it seems to my eyeballs that Bama and Oregon are clearly the 2 best teams (at this point).

Bring it on.

MSU's defense, particularly the secondary, was a joke...

STOP... BEFORE ANY OF YOU START POUNDING THE KEYBOARD:

Yes, Cooper would make any secondary in the country look bad, because he's simply an AMAZING player (gonna be a huge weapon on Sundays), but overall, that defense looked as soft as it comes.

And Bama's defense isn't what it has been in years past (when you put 9 guys in the NFL off your defense every year, letdowns are inevitable). Oregon's offense is better than it's ever been -- look what it's done to 3 of the best defenses in the country... dropped over 40 on all of them.

I strongly disagree.

The defense isn't quite as good -- it's like Alioti-Lite. They still focus on the big play at the expense of stopping things at the LOS, but don't make as many big plays. Although the weakness of the undersized DL has been mitigated.

The offense is light-years ahead of 2010... not even close. Better at just about every position. Some local honks cite a dropoff at RB, but that really isn't the case. Despite Sam telling us "no way is Oregon better [than Bama] at RB," the Ducks are sick at RB. The returning 1000 yard back (Byron Marshall) was freaking moved to slot receiver because there's 5-stars wearing red-freaking-shirts, and he had 2 5-stars behind him. The offensive line is way deeper, the receivers are better and faster, and at least the TEs aren't nutcases (like the 5-star local boy they replaced).

This isn't the 2010 Ducks... they're New and Improved.

And an Oregon/FSU tilt sounds awesome. O/U should be about 180.

Oregon didn't schedule Colorado, not in November, or any other month.

Bama DID schedule Western Carolina, and Auburn DID schedule Samford... in November.

These are absolute facts, and no amount of stupidity you spew changes them.

There were 4 starters out against Zona. In 2010, they had trouble scraping together 4 starting-quality OLs. Now, they plugged in 4 new ones, albeit inexperienced ones.

But on the flipside, if you keep the same group together for 4 years, they're awesome by year 4 -- and the next season is a huge dropoff.

Oregon is fortunate to have a decent mix, and the injuries this season might be a blessing for next season -- couple of freshmen got serious reps.
