The fleet AVERAGE is already 5MPG above the old standard. Also, as you said not so eloquently, when gas prices are high, soccah moms be downsizing their rigs. Europeans are all but forced to purchase hybrids due to EU restrictions.

Cafe standards to little more than discourage new at sales. I would like to see the mountain of regs done away. This would open the market to new small innovations companies. Of course the large manufacturers don't want that so it liky won't happen.
