Do any of you have experience with Taurus? A friend has one and I've shot it, he likes it and I do too, although for concealed carry it seems a bit much. I have a S&W 38 but was looking to go up some. I want to stay with revolvers, I just don't trust semis although I realize many/most people prefer them.
Either of the 45/410 combos would work if you are standing off grizzly in Alaska or gorillas in Ferguson MO. Not very concealable and not practical for very day carry.
You need to decide what caliber she should carry. Forget purse carry. If you cannot carry it on your person, it is useless, and when the thug jacks the purse, puts your gun in criminals hands. In our family wife carries a Tarcus TCP .380. An OK gun low end price point, has over 200 rounds with only one jam. Ruger LCPs are in the same class and OK as well. In .380 I would get the S&W Bodyguard .380 with the laser. Two of my daughter in laws carry these. Daughter carries a KelTech 9mm,she likes the larger gun and can conceal it quite well. The Ruger LC9 is a good gun as well. Ruger also puts teh .380 in the LC9 now. The larger frame soaks up more of the kick from the .380 round than it does in the compact.
I carry the Ruger LC9.
The Sig .380 is a very nice gun. Going to be at least $ 250 more than the other compact .380s, but well worth it.
Stepping up in the quality section would be moving up to a Kahr, Sig Sauer, or Beretta. I would not mind a Beretta 9mm at all. My boys disliked them as the Marine Corps issue sidearm, but under civilian use they should perform quite well. Don't worry about the .380 hitting power. Load it up with Hornady Critical Defense bullets and you can belly shoot some prick and put a hole the size of a coffee cup in them.
What ever you decide for her to carry, get some additional training in self defense tactics, situational awareness, threat analysis and reaction. Just because you have a gun and can put some rounds on the target, does mean you have the brain power to stay out of trouble.
For not trusting semis, really is not a point. I prefer them over a revolver because they are tactically much more effective, especially in a multiple round exchange. I do something a lot of people do not consider and I carry 2 extra magazines on me. That gives me a total of 27 rounds versus 5 or 6 and the ability to reload and get back in it versus the cumbersome process of reloading a revolver. A good tap rack bang drill helps you have instant reaction to a jam. Buy good ammo not that cheap Chinese or Russian shit.
Now for Barflies .25 throw down special..where the fuck did you get that ?? Give it back to the cop to use as a throw down...
