Quit my job today
Seriously - I couldn't take it any more.
Fuck. What am I gonna do now?
Think I'll beat it on down the line.

I'm working with a start-up here in "the City" that has a software program that helps businesses compete with Amazon's 2 day delivery.
The only time these businesses work with amazon... is during a close out of their products.
Otherwise, the software helps with DC's on the west coast.
By the way... I'm an angel investor.
Send me... your resume.

I call bullshit, nobody quits their job right before paid holidays. Hell, it's tough to get fired at this time of year.

We run or are partners in five different businesses. My career hasn't been a real career in a couple of years now. It's a letterhead and I have some pretty credentials.
I went to school for 7 1/2 years so I could become the de facto CFO at my wife's burgeoning jewelry design business; who has a an AA in Marketing.
I paid off my first wife's student debt, I'm not going to bitch about my second paying off mine . . . you get no judgement from me Mikey.
P.S. before the snarky spelling education jokes, I'm the son of an attorney and that IS HOW YOU SPELL JUDGEMENT MOD DAMN IT!!!

My aunt is the Assistant Treasurer and Tax Director at a company you despise. She helped pay for my grad school, love that woman to death. It warms my heart to see how you fume about them while knowing that company paid for much of my education and helped me start my personal businesses.matteric wrote:War Wagon wrote:I call bullshit, nobody quits their job right before paid holidays.

So, lets have all the gory details, miguel. Why did your job suck so badly? Do you have anything else lined up?
OK, fukknuts, lets have some career advice for slim.
I could see mikey in some sort of breaking bad, high quality meth kingpin role. You could hire 88 as a technical consultant/lawyer.

Started this job in June and decided to give it a six month trial. About 90% travel, half within driving distance, half by air. I've never had a job that required so much time away from home. The travel was too much for me, and the wife had a hard time being home alone so much. Among other things.smackaholic wrote:So, lets have all the gory details, miguel. Why did your job suck so badly? Fairly typical week:
Monday, Oceanside, CA
Tuesday, fly to San Jose and drive to Monterey.
Wednesday, drive to Stockton for two days.
Thursday night, drive to Roseville (near Sacramento).
Friday work in Roseville, fly home from Sactown on Friday evening.
It also happens that I had to fly to Dallas the following Sunday morning, and back to San Diego on Tuesday night.
And no, I'm not fucking stupid. I would not have walked away without a plan. I start a new job on January 19, which allows me a couple weeks to unwind and work in the yard. Same salary, better bennies, and a 20 mile commute each way. Working with industrial customers installing new energy efficient equipment and helping them apply for utility incentives.
The meth thing sounds pretty good but there's prolly no medical coverage.

Re: Quit my job today
Having a pension and SS for support has its advantages. I quit a job at FGCU after one semester just because I hated the 40 minute commute and traffic. My last job at Edison State College (now Florida Southwestern) had a "commute" with one traffic light. Stayed there for about 4 years and quit after they began piling on extra work w/o extra pay. Made sure my last day was after the paid vacation time over the holidays. Still keeping an eye out for an easy part time job close to home. Life is good.

Re: Quit my job today
mikey,
I feel your pain regarding the travel. Been at my new yob since april. Have put better than 30K miles on the Sonata. I get the standard 56 cents a mile reimbursement, so I do OK on that end, but I am starting to dislike driving quite a bit. Thanks to Allah, the spaghetti monster, etc.... for sirius XM. Driving home late, a pretty regular occurence is made better listening to Jim Ladd on deep tracks. Dude might even be better than smackie at spinning ass-kicking rock and roll you'll never hear on classic rock stations. The bank acct is looking good, but sitting in a fuggen car 6-10 hrs a day isn't doing my health much good. If it doesn't get better, I will likely bail on this gig sometime this year.

installing x-ray is a very small part. 95% is working on ETD (explosive trace detection) machines. The x-rays pretty much never break. ETDs, not so much.

Nope. Not in the medical x-ray bidness. Wish I was. Then I wouldn't have to deal with the TSA which is about as much fun as dealing with any other gov. entity. You develop a whole new level of disgust with the TSA dog and pony show when you see it up close as I have these last last 9 months. And it is not the TSOs I blame. Most are good people. It is the moronic politicians and upper management. And some of the lower management as well, who are in complete CYA mode, not that I blame them. The the overpaid unaccountable government hack certainly does exist, but, it ain't the TSA. They are the most overscrutinized underpaid gov workers there are.

3:30 am Central Time - alarm
3:45 am CT - leave the house for Austin Airport
5:00 am CT - return rental car
5:50 am CT - depart Austin as a pax on American to DFW
7:45 am CT - depart DFW as a pax
8:45 am PT - arrive Las Vegas
9:20 am PT - arrive at corporate jet
10:45 am PT - depart LAS in pilot's seat
11:50 am PT - arrive Ont, plane has an issue and won't be flying for prolly 48 hours. The company I was filling in for has another plane in the Bay Area.
12:30 pm PT - In a cab for LAX. Raining and piss poor SoCal drivers are exponentially worse in wet weather.
12:45 pm PT - two tickets on American purchased to SFO for 2:30, cabbie needs to drive faster
2:10 pm PT - on shuttle to remote American Eagle Terminal when phone rings, 2:30 PM flt cxld.
2:15 pm PT- notice there is a flight to San Diego leaving from remote terminal at 2:35 PM and Southwest has open seats from SAN to San Jose on the 4:something flight. Agent is cool and puts us on San Diego flight. Other Pilot is purchasing the Southwest tickets.
2:35 pm PT- on American eagle flight as a pax, but get a flow control departure time of 3:25pm. If Southwest is on time we won't make it.
3:25 pm PT - depart LAX in rain.
4:10 pm PT - arrive SAN, overcast, Southwest is also delayed due to weather
5:15 pm PT - depart SAN on Southwest as a pax
6:45 pm PT - arrive SJC, pouring rain. Grab cab to SFO.
?:?? pm PT - arrive SFO. Rain and low vis
9:45 pm PT - depart SFO in pilots seat, drizzle, low vis
11:00 pm PT - arrive Las Vegas
11:15 pm PT - in cab to hotel their company has booked which is Luxor.
11:30 pm PT - still in cab as dude went thru the tunnel under the runways, onto the interstate frontage road, and damn near back to where we started and meter shows $29. Called cabbie a thief and an asshole. He claims construction. Other pilot says he should have asked us. Other pilot continues conversation as I go check in.
11:40 pm PT - room service claims it is 15 minutes for express options, order club sando with fruit salad
12:33 am PT - wake up to banging on my door, must have fallen asleep, so much for 15 mins
12:34 am PT - eat some and set alarm for 6:15 am
Props though for finding a new gig that is a better fit for you. So many people just bitch and moan about their jobs but never do anything about it.
Also enjoy your time in the yard. Hope all that rain last Tuesday made your yard and garden happy.

Yes, it will all be part of my invoice to the company I was filling in for. I prefer to make those purchases myself and then pass them thru without a mark up for two reasons. First, in such a case involving a third party often will slow the process down and options begin to fall away. For example if we had to call someone we never would have made the change to the San Diego option. Second and prolly most important is if I pay for those on my CC I get the Amex points or American miles.

I hear you. Gotta get them points!! I have to deal with the same thing regarding travel. The company says go through HRG or whatever the fukk their name is. Fukk that. It is fine for a scheduled install, but, when it is 9PM and you come to the realization that you aren't going home that night, if I went through them for a room, I'd be sleeping in my fukking car.Left Seater wrote:Yes, it will all be part of my invoice to the company I was filling in for. I think I mentioned in TuneTown that I grew up listening to Jim Ladd on KMET & KLOS in SoCal, and that he was a major influence on my getting into broadcasting. He worked the 10pm - 2am shift, and had total freedom to play what he wanted. The reason he's on satellite radio is because KLOS fired him after the station was sold. Saw him fire up a joint onstage when Pink Floyd performed The Wall in LA. He's pretty much a legend of SoCal FM rock radio. In fact, this song is about Jim Ladd:smackaholic wrote:Driving home late, a pretty regular occurence is made better listening to Jim Ladd on deep tracks. And I think I may have mentioned here that TP just may be a better DJ than he is a musician. He absolutely kicks ass. Plays everything, especially really cool stuff from colored folks in the 50-60s, back before they forgot how to make good music.Smackie Chan wrote:I think I mentioned in TuneTown that I grew up listening to Jim Ladd on KMET & KLOS in SoCal, and that he was a major influence on my getting into broadcasting. Three more days on the job next week (Mon-Wed) then I'm off until I start the new gig on Jan 19.
I can see this three week unemployment thing is really going to suck. Prolly have to just do yard work, watch football, work out and drink wine.
