While I have been the recipient of several paychecks working with and for the Cardinals organization, the only thing I've been a "fan" of is their money.

So, to answer your question, no to either.

How is this relevant?

mvscal wrote:Fuck that. It would destroy the entire concept of divisions and the rivalries which are a huge part of the game and turn it into some kind of round robin tournament which would astoundingly gay.

The first order of business for any team is to win your division.
I agree with this take. Rivalries are lacking in professional sports, and the divisional rivalries in the NFL help make the product compelling.

W/L records in the NFL can be deceiving, anyway. Injuries and unbalanced schedules play a big part in that. Does anyone really think the Cardinals are one of the best teams in the NFL just because they have 11 wins?

The Lions are an 11-win team and the Falcons are a 6-win team. I would take the Falcons over the Lions right now, and I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd bet they would even be favored by Vegas.

To follow up what Papa said, Mgo makes a great point here, one which I have already agreed with in part. The Cardinals clearly are not one of the best teams right now, but when they had Palmer and a few other key players, they were better. But far from the best. Yet, up until last night, they were the Division leader. So if they had won the division, it both makes and goes against the whole argument about division champs. Look, I have no issue whatsoever with the current format, other than seeing a dismal team make the playoffs over a good team. Rivalries absolutely make the game better. Getting rid of them is not what this has been about.

I don't understand how the Saints are officially eliminated. If they win Sunday and the Panthers/Falcons tie, that would leave the Saints with the most wins (7) in the division....the Panthers would be 6-8-2, and the Falcons would be 6-9-1. What the fuck?

Jerkoff, seriously? Look at the standings. The Panthers are 7-8-1, Saints are 7-9.

What part of mathematics confuses you?

It was a valid question, you and others piled on after the results of Week 17.

How come you didn't answer before?

Of course, another tie is unlikely, but still... YAFJ had a point.

And I wouldn't want to be playing Carolina right about now.

Blind squirrels and nuts come to mind. I'm guessing that under his scenario Panthers would have been 6-8-2, Saints 7-9, which I believe the NFL considers equivalent. They split head-to-head, but Carolina would have had the better record in division 3-2-1 vs 3-3.
