Just a heads-up

Post by Dinsdale »

There's a nasty "virus" (actually, a ransomware) going around. Does some nasty stuff.

But long story short -- if you visit a website, and it tells you that you need an Adobe/Flash/Java update to continue...

DO NOT click it. Don't touch that window. Open your Task Manager and close all running instances of "iexplore.exe."

You're welcome.

I was getting that popup this last hitch home. I'd never had that come up on my comp from Java before, so I was suspicious about it. Interestingly, my anti-virus, MicroTrend didn't notify me about it. Needless to say, I didn't click on the link.

Sounds like the cryptolocker virus. Yea, that irus is pure evil. It is also why you should always have a back up drive that is disconnected unless you are backing up files to it.

Does that exact virus that was geared to attack WINDOWS also attack Macs?

But don't think there aren't mac viruses out there.

It was a rhetorical question aim directly across dims' bow.

I'm starting to think that there actually aren't any MAC virises. I don't know one single MAC user that had ever had one.

I do. Just because the population of mac viruses are small doesn't mean they aren't out there.

Their products work great all the time, don't get infected, last long and are priced accordingly. What's your problem starfish-face?

Right. Just make sure Apple has all your current credit card details and they will "make the bad man go away".

Suitable for housewives, the elderly, the computer illiterate...I suppose.

You actually typed that?

Absolutely, without question, the biggest PPOS screen ever installed in a smartphone... not even a close contest.

And Crapple isn't too big on spending any money on the processor.

But they're "priced accordingly"?

Funny stuff.

Sure. Priced accordingly to the tendencies and intelligence of their target market.

Dims,
My first iPhone was 100$ used and lasted 4 yrs. My iPhone 4 was about the same and my son still uses it for games and stuff. I fried my iPhone 5 which was free in a pool in Florida. My IPhone 6+ was a bit pricey at 300$ but works great. So I have spend 500$ on the phones that I have used in the last decade.
As for computers I have owned apple since my first Apple II. Not sure how much they all cost but in the same time my PC family and friends have bought shit machine after shit machine.
Tablets? One mini and one reg ipad couple hundred each used. Both work great and the only problem was when the 5 yo dropped the big ipad and cracked the screen.
Laptops? I've had two both work great. One is dedicated to my prison work and out performs the PC shit the State bought the parole board. At least that what they say. In fact, many have just thrown up their hands and gone out of pocket for a MacBook.
In big industrial applications and the like PC might be better, but most people I know have ditched PC for Apple and are happy. Anecdotal evidence I know, but that's my story.

What's yours?
