I thought biker "gangs" these days were mostly 60 year old dudes out for a weekend ride in their Harley jackets.
Police: 9 dead after shooting between biker gangs in Texas
DEVELOPING: Police in Waco, Texas say nine people are dead and multiple people are injured after a shooting between rival biker gangs at a restaurant Sunday.
“Officers were on scene when shooting started,” the Waco Police Department posted on Facebook. “No officers have been injured.”
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton told The Associated Press that eight people died at the scene of the shooting at the Twin Peaks restaurant about noon Sunday and another person died at a hospital. The severity of injuries to others was not immediately known.
It is not clear if bystanders at the restaurant were among the injured.
Swanton said Department of Public Safety troopers, police officers from several cities and deputies from the McLennan County Sheriff's Office are surrounding the restaurant and securing the area.
“Please avoid the Central Texas Market Place as the area is NOT safe. Officers are continuing to arrest individuals coming to the scene with weapons,” the Waco Police Department posted on Facebook. “This is not the time to sight see as we are dealing with very dangerous individuals.”
Swanton told the station that the fight started in the restaurant with fists and feet, then escalated to chains, clubs and knives and then to gunfire.
Swanton said police were aware that gang members were gathering at the restaurant and officers were present when shots began.
Some of the officers fired on bikers as the shooting spilled from the restaurant into a busy parking lot, according to The Associated Press. Patrons and bystanders dove for cover.
A witness who asked not to be identified told KWTX that he had just finished eating lunch at the nearby Don Carlos Mexican Restaurant with his family and walked out into the parking lot when they heard gunshots and saw wounded people being taken from the scene.
"We crouched down in front of our pick-up truck because that was the only cover we had," the man said.
Victims were taken to the Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco.
Swanton said authorities are concerned that gang members are moving to other parts of the city to continue the confrontation elsewhere.
McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna told KWTX earlier this month that law enforcement was aware of simmering conflicts between gangs that gathered at the restaurant.
So nine biker gang bangers died, or some combination of wannabe criminals, junkies or other random piles of trash that hang out at known gang hotspots.
Meth production and transportation is gonna take a hit. However, what has always cracked me up is the whole "Toys for Tots" thing that the Hell's Angels do with the Marine Corps. I'm not quite certain who is hoping who will rub off on the other. Is it the MC looking to be a bit more badass by associating with a notorious criminal gang or it is the other way around? The HA are looking for legitimacy by handing out toys to children and getting their picture taken with the supposedly most badass branch of the military? I've always seen it that the Angels get more from the relationship than the other way around, but who knows? Maybe some general is the military equivalent of the dentist who gets all dressed up in the de'rigeur Village People costume of the black leather vest and assless chaps.

I fail to see the downside of this news.
Exactly.
Let the cops protect the general public, but let the gangs eliminate each other.

Even a club like HA there's only a small % of the members running dope, most have real jobs and regular lives
But please, continue with your hand wringing
So if you are correct, then even better. The larger percentage of member with "real jobs" and "regular lives" prolly wouldn't be involved in this. Let the rival gangs kill off the small percentage of "bad apples" and everyone benefits.
That said, I know a decent number of folks who ride on the weekends. I don't know a single one who belongs to a Motorcycle Club, much less one who wears a leather jacket with club patches and positions. They just ride out into the hill country on nice weather weekends and then turn around and ride home.

Then you don't know very many bikers. These guys were all 1%ers.

Flashback about 10 years ago. I had a couple of friends that were eating in the food court of a mall here in Macon. Suddenly, a couple of black gangs start fucking shooting it out at each other from opposite sides of the food court. Went on for a good 5 minutes, while all of the other normal folks had to hide under their fucking tables to keep from getting shot. Several people were wounded, but nobody died.
The local media never said a word about it. We all guess that the mall (who was starting to struggle at that time) paid the media off - NOT to say anything about it, and it CERTAINLY didn't make national headlines. But this is the kind of fucking shit I'm talking about. We don't get to hear about shit like this coming out of Coonville.
Maybe it's just your imagination. Google doesn't show ANYTHING. Therefore, it never really happened.

Or it could be there are segments of both who actually "give a fuck" But, I'm sure there is a little bit of both.
Someone once said 1% of the bikers were making the rest look like criminals. The outlaw clubs took that as a badge of honor and started to include the 1% patch as part of their full patch set.

In prison, full moon nights have a kind of brutal sodomy that can't fully be described with mere words.
First, bear in mind that the biker-fueled meth trade started in Oregon -- maybe that changes things. But years ago, I knew a bunch of bikers, and used to occasionally hang out (I helped the President's son out of a jam once, through mutual friends -- they thought I was the bee's knees). And there must be a fuckton of other MC guys out there, since every fucking one of them was involved in meth/heroin dealing... all of them.
Fuckers built some cool as fuck vehicles, though. They were set up to weld on Harley frames and engine work right in the living room of the clubhouse (had an exhaust system and the whole bit).
KC Scott wrote:I've read several different accounts of what happened, including the following article which WON'T get any News coverage but supposedly does include eyewitness accounts saying none of the bikers were shooting: http://www.agingrebel.com/12873
According to them it was a knife fight that the cops opened fire on the combatants killing all 9. I don't know if it's true, only a Ballistics test will confirm what really happened
When the restaurant refused to ban the Confederation of Clubs, police stationed at least 22 cops including ten Swat officers from the Waco P.D. and the Texas Department of Public Safety in the parking lot outside the restaurant. They did not station either uniformed or plain clothes officers in the restaurant.
The shove in the bathroom became a scuffle in the restaurant. When about 30 Bandidos, Cossacks, Scimitars and other bikers spilled into the parking between the Twin peaks and the Don Carlos Mexican restaurant next door, the police were waiting for them. The scuffle became a knife fight and several men were stabbed. When one of the combatants produced a gun the Swat team opened fire with automatic weapons. Multiple sources have told The Aging Rebel that all of the dead were killed by police.
Of course it won't make the news because none of the innocent club member victims of the police were black.
One advantage in riding in a group (or at least a group of guys riding cruisers) is that the intelligence factor of cages goes up exponentially. While there's a few knuckleheads who will pull stupid stuff with their cars, most like to give plenty of room.
To those who think the leather is just a costume, think back to when you were a kid & had an accident on your bicycle at say, 5-10 mph. Think of the road rash that you felt, and then imagine going down at 50-70 mph. There's plenty of photos of what happens when a rider goes down simply wearing jeans (not going to go to the Redmond card here).
Yes, the camaraderie is important. For starters, there's the shared experience of constantly being under threat from cages. Additionally, there's also the common experience of knowing what it's like to have the freedom of riding & knowing what cagers are missing. But I'm with SS in that I've never had a desire to joing a club. Why fuck up the experience of the joy of riding with a bunch of drama and/or politics? For me it's all about grabbing a few friends & hitting the road. Once you get into the countryside it's amazing how uncomplicated life can be.
Marty, we ARE laughing at you. Been around a lot of 1%'ers when you zip around town on your scooter?

Someone is going to tell me when and where I'm going to ride? That ain't gonna happen.
Not exactly Sam - some clubs ma have mandatory hauls, but a group like Liberty Riders schedules a run and if you make it you make it, if you don't it means you had something better to do
Or maybe you were just skeered of the CAGES. Pedo sounds like all the hipster doofus bicyclists that post on local forums here. Cages. Because you know, we're all prisoners of our motor vehicles.

We get it. You don't ride, and don't live somewhere with scenery worth seeing. Sucks to be you.
