Rack My Kid
My younger son just finished up his sophomore year of college and will begin his university studies in the fall. He was offered a full ride (tuition, room/board, incidental expenses) at UC Santa Cruz where he'll be majoring in electrical engineering (he was offered the same deal at UC Merced, too). He'll be doing a summer internship at UCSC helping to design sensors to be used for proton tomography that will use proton beams as a way of treating cancer, studying under a professor who designed components for CERN. He's got other projects he's working on as well, including designing turbines that will use sewer systems for generating electricity. Not bad for a kid who just turned 21. Rack him.

Rack him. Lots of big words in there.
Re: Rack My Kid
Racks Smackie,
UCSC has definitely changed their image over the years particularly their Engineering and Science departments. There was a time they were left of Berkley but they were all so stoned and laid back they really weren't motivated to protest and do other dumb shit.
Oh what the hell it is still a laid back, stoned out area, that is probably still left of Berkley but is still a really cool place with a good vibe. Helluva expensive place to live though.
Congrats on the spawn doing good.

You would think with all that know-how, he could make a decent bong.
Re: Rack My Kid
Rack him for aiming at a career that means something. Pity the fools taking gender studies or whatever. Hope he keep the goal in mind and doesn't get distracted from it by all the diversions kids have.

Rack your little cumshot, Smackie!!!! Looks like he might be even smarter than you. And, I consider you one of the brighter bulbs on the T1B tree.
Is that damning you with faint praise, or what?

Rack you son. I hear UCSC is still quite the hippy school, but it sounds like your kid is on the right track. How does he get a full ride to a college in California? You have to be pretty exceptional or poor to get anything here.

Re: Rack My Kid
Whatever rack is I guess so. He sounds like he has his head on straight. Good job. We need more topics like this on the board and a lot less negativity. I have a question though. You said he is entering university. Does that mean he went to junior college for his freshman and sophmore year? That is what I wanted my daughter to do. To save a lot of money and to gradually move into college life. But she and her mom insisted she go right to a big university and not only that but one that is out of state. It's still a soar point for me. But i lost that battle. No man can win against two women. Ever. Anyway I hope the best for your child. Rack your kid, and rack you for keeping him away from this shit heap.
Re: Rack My Kid
He missed the "pass/fail" system of grading they had by 14 years....that's probably a good thing.
