Growing up, Snake and Freddie Biletnikoff were my heroes.

Back when the Raiders truly were the rebels of the NFL.

Good times.

Outstanding player, league MVP, Super Bowl winner.

I was head coach of the Raiders the entire time Kenny was there and he led us to a whole bunch of
victories including one in Super Bowl XI. I've often said, If I had one drive to win a game to this day,
and I had a quarterback to pick, I would pick Kenny. Snake was a lot cooler than I was. He was a
perfect quarterback and a perfect Raider. When you think about the Raiders you think about Ken Stabler.
Kenny loved life. It is a sad day for all Raiders

In a very strange sort of way, this play epitomizes Snake's career.





Last play of the game -- and what can't happen is for the QB to take a sack, go down, or throw incomplete.
Seems obvious, yet how many times do we see a QB freeze up and do what he knows he can't happen in that situation?

Stabler is about to be sacked, so he flipped it forward.
Two heads-up players (Banaszak and Casper) matriculated the ball down the field[Stram] and it's paydirt!




Lucky?

Oh yes.

But you know what?

Stabler had a knack for comin' through when balls were on the choppin' block.

I remember the Oakland playoff game vs the Dolphins (the year after they went 17-0), probably the best game I ever saw. From that time forward Snake was way elevated in my eyes. RIP

Joe Namath is in the Hall of Fame, but Stabler is not. Sad.

Joe's numbers do not merit Hall of Fame inclusion.

Maybe not, but his wardrobe did.

Namath in the Hall has been discussed before in here.

I don't think he would have gotten in if he hadn't played in NY.

But you never know for sure, because that win by the AFC in SB #3 was very significant event for pro football.

And the whole big underdog, guarantee thing made it more "epic."
