WOW! So of course I heard the name "Cornelius Green of Washington DC" and I looked him up. Apparently he was OSU's first balck QB, and he was amazing at that. He was also former Rose Bowl MVP according to WUSA-TV. As of late 2014, he is asst football coach at St Albans, which is one of the elite DC prep schools.

Screw - he has been our guest speaker for our local Alumni chapters golf outing twice now (Cornelius). He has some GREAT stories about Woody, Archie, etc. Great guy...I provided the transportation for him to and from the golf course and from he airport and hearing these stories and what he has to say is unreal.

Yes, he coaches middle school football and I think is a varsity assistant in basketball for St. Alban's

I understand he wasn't a play by play guy. But if someone is going to claim Jackson WAS college football then Beano certainly was at one point as well. He convinced ABC to rearrange game schedules based on his thoughts of who would be good. The best known of those was likely the 1969 Arkansas and Texas game which was moved to Dec 1st.

Just because someone is given a moniker doesn't mean they are a good listen, as a play by play guy, a studio guy, radio etc.

It's not just us that think he was one of the best. ABC assigned him to their primary national game of the week for many years.

In 1999, the National Football Foundation awarded Jackson the Gold Medal Award, its highest honor. The same year he was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame for his many years of contribution to "The Granddaddy of Them All". The Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University awarded their alumnus with the Murrow Award for top leaders in the communication industry in 1999; Jackson was a charter member of the WSU Foundation, founded in 1979, provided scholarship money to the Murrow School and chaired the fund-raising drive for the school's alumni center. In 1994, Jackson was inducted into the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame. On April 24, 1995, he was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame, having won its National Sportscaster of the Year five successive times. The American Football Coaches Association awarded him its Amos Alonzo Stagg Award in 1993 as an individual "whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests of football." He was the first sports announcer to receive the Stagg award.

Longtime Penn State Head Coach Joe Paterno said of Jackson: "I don't think you could say that there is any one person who is not a coach, athletic director or administrator who has done more for college football than Keith Jackson". I can't think of a better college play-by-play guy that I've seen in my lifetime. I'm no Wolfman, but that covers a lot of years. I googled best college football announcers. Here's the first two links that popped up:

Hell, who listens to the announcers anyway? I watch the game...their voices are background noise.

BTW, Ricky Bell rushed for far more yardage than either Griffin or Muncie in '75.

Franklin was good, but Jackson and Nessler are my favorite CFB p-b-p guys. They are/were, hands down, the best at their craft in the sport.
