The throat slash has always been one of my favorite gestures. Extra credit for mimicking the struggle before pulling the knife across the throat. Chris Webber was pretty good at that.

I doubt the Wizzing Hut was pissed about the 15 yards, probably that he wants his players to conduct themselves with class (a radical concept in the SEC).

You are just trolling here. Your know that the coaches write the rules. This has zero to do with the officials and everything to do with what the coaches want.schmick wrote:and have the queers in the striped shirts throw a flag for a player immitating a throat slash or choke?
As usual you are wrong. Stepping on someone who is on the ground is a personal foul. If it is Suh level bad the officials can add an unsportsmanlike to it. Making a throat slash gesture is absolutely an unsportsmanlike foul. The rule book says so explicitly:schmick wrote:A late hit is a personal foul and stepping on someone who is on the ground is unsportsmanlike conduct. Making a gesture is neither of those and should not be a penalty.
Rule 9, Section 2, Article 1
Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:
(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s), or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat.
Take it up with the coaches, they write the rules.schmick wrote:The rule needs to be removed.

Lefty,
Did they remove the finger to the front of the face mask in a shushing manner as an unsportsmanlike like foul? I saw OSU do it numerous times against VaTech but they weren't penalize for it. Just curious.

The shhhhhhh, gesture is not specified in the rule book like the throat slash is.
That said, it has been brought to our attention via video updates that in some situations it could be a foul. The eating gesture is also on the watch list along with making it rain.

This is where the grey areas of the rule book really confuse and frustrate me. The throat slash and shush are directed at other players, fans. I can see why this could or is considered an unsportsmanlike penalty.
The eating food and making it rain seem to be celebrations with teammates.

You better believe it is confusing and frustrating. The eating gesture is usually ok so long as it is done around teammates. When done in the face of an opponent it is to be called as UNS. The making it rain and the Johnny Football cash thing is not accepted well by opponents and that is why coaches want it called.Killian wrote:This is where the grey areas of the rule book really confuse and frustrate me. As for the shhhhhhhh gesture, it is often made with the player facing the stands/away from the field of play. Think about a long TD pass or run. The player often continues out of the back of the endzone where he finds cameras. This gesture is often made to the camera or to the stands and officials see the players back. We can't assume that he is taunting them.

The book is clear on throwing a punch, you get to hit the showers.
I am guessing no one saw that. From the video I don't see any officials feet around them. Was that behind the play or something?

Who gives a fuck about hand gestures? They aren't hurting anyone. I would much rather see the sport crack down on cut blocking over a meaningless hand signal.
