Spent some time in the central part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula over the past few days. The fall colors hadn't yet peaked -- I was a week too early -- but were still deece in some areas. The weather changed about every five minutes, which is par for the course up there. From my time there, the temps ranged from the mid 40s to the low 70s.

Mackinac Bridge

Just before the bridge in the lower peninsula is Mackinaw City. If you're old and you like fudge, you'll probably love Mackinaw City.

Wienerlicious. One of the fine dining establishments in the area.

The town of Munising, about a 2.5 hour drive northwest after you cross the bridge. The home of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore where I spent some time hiking.

Driving to the shore.

About a 5 mile walk through the woods to get to the lake shore.

Lake Superior. Note the lack of earth curvature. Hmmm.

Random tree on a rock

Trail gets pretty close to the edge. Probly wouldn't want to do this drunk.

Marquette, the largest city in the UP. Watched some college football here. It's a pretty cool town with several bar/restaurant options though this pic doesn't really show it.

Heading to Tahquamenon State Park in Paradise, MI, 2.5 hrs east of Marquette.

I made the assumption his uhhh, partner would come along and get it on video. Just make sure he has your login info ahead of time. The jump off that cliff could be your last. There must be some places there where the locals/really stupid tourists can jump off and survive. How deep is the water? How many miles would you have to swim to find a point along shore where you can climb out?

Cell phone cameras don't capture height very well, those cliffs are higher than they appear there. You go over that edge, you're most likely gonzo. Even if you survive the splat there's really no place to swim to, and even if there is, hypothermia is gonna set in soon.

They capture it well enough. I would guess that the trees on top are typical 60-80 ft tall trees, so the cliffs must be north of one hundred feet.

Marquette has a population of around 22,000. It's in a nice setting and there's enough going on downtown that you can bar hop and have a good time. It's a mix of locals and tourists. It's also home to Northern Michigan University. If you need skyscrapers and 50 different brewpubs then it's probably not the place for you. I could live there.

It was 73 degrees when I left yesterday afternoon. The only thing that's for certain is Dec, Jan, Feb, and most of March, are going to be brutal. Personally, I think it's good to live in a place that weeds out the weather pussies/pussies in general.

CT can get snow 6, maybe 7 months a year. I would think yuppers could see snow 7 or 8 months.
