vTruckdbg error when trying to use start up CD

Yup, how surprising that I am already having issues with the new PC. When I tied to install Roadrunner yesterday evening using their start up disc I received the following message:

VTruckDbg has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

It then removes the Roadrunner installation screen from view, therefore I cannot install the needed information to get my PC on the net. Keep in mind, this isn't the common "boot" message telling me to insert disc after start up, as I can't even load the software for RR on my computer due to this error.

Can anyone tell me why computers hate me or give me some information on how to correct this problem?

If you restore from a day previous to the day you deleted the stuff, it should come back, right? I'm not a computer guy but you seemed desperate. Any port in a storm, right?

I'm not familiar with Roadrunner's setup but if you are on cable..

Have you tried just plugging everything in and opening up Internet Explorer?
The cable modem that I bought and my ISP's rental modems don't require you to install software.

And don't know how nazi Roadrunner is, but they gave me a bunch of spyware.......ERRRRRRRRR "installation software" with my Verizon DSL(just about as fast as cable, for a fraction of the cost, but I understand these options vary by region). I never installed their proprietary bullshit, and don't even let them do all the pinging/packet swapping/communicating with my machine WAY too much..........and I've never had a connectivity problem.

So there.

PrimeX, try uninstalling the RR software.

RR uses DHCP authentication. You need to setup TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically and obtain the DNS server address automatically. Then, under the advanced section for TCP/IP make sure DHCP is enabled.

I think what Otis means is to set your broadband router to "obtain IP adress automatically."

Then, under Network Places, click "properties," then under" TCP/IP for ~~whatever kind of ethernet card you have~~", click "properties." There, you will find the automatic IP adressing options.

I think that's what he was saying. He just grossly overestimated your intelligence, that's all.

Sorry Dins, but my huge brain actually knew what all of that meant. Still, none of it is working. My 'puter does notice my wireless card I pulled from my other junk pile, but I cannot for the life of me get a connection running. I KNEW when Truck was banned he would be back. Geigh ass DIE, DIE, DIE!!!

Anyone know what the number is to that Geek site where they come to your house and fix your shit? Seriously, I need those nerds. I don't even care if they cost 2 dollars. I'm in this to win it!

skip the software,fuck the router and try to get a connection straight from the modem into your LAN jack on the back of your rig.
reboot the modem and computer and see if your LAN connection icon in the lower right hand corner indicates a connection.

As usual I will start by saying that its just about impossible to write one message and fix a problem.

Could you drop some hints as to what type of a setup you are running? We know about the Dell, but what about the cable modem. Are you using a router in between? You mentioned something about a wireless card so this would tell me that you are trying to run wireless, which means that your modem is either a combined cable modem/wireless router or that you already have a wireless router that you plugged into your modem. Anyway it would be nice if you could drop some hints as to what is connected and how.

Those CDs and their software are there to give you some help, but they are not required. Someone already asked if you have tried to just plug your computer directly into the Modem and what may have happend? I would say your best bet is to take your PC and use the supplied Ethernet CAT5 cable to go from the PC directly to the Cable modem. Your PC should be set to receive its network settings dynamically (DHCP). As some people on those discussion boards have mentioned, some ISPs require you to register your computer's MAC address. I have never used a service that would require you to register it. You may want to call your local office and verify if you need to register your MAC address with them or not. They can give you directions on how to find it if you need it, but the quickest way to do it is:

Start -> Run -> Type 'cmd' and hit enter. In the Command window type 'ipconfig /all'. One of the lines will be your MAC address.

Anyway, you only need the computer one if you directly connect it to the modem. Otherwise your personal Router/firewall should tell you it's MAC address on its info page.

If you directly connect your computer to the Cable Modem and your computer is set to receive its Network information dynamically from the service provider (set this under your network configuration), then you can check if your computer received the information by the same directions as above. Open the command prompt window (start -> run -> 'cmd' and then type 'ifconfig /all'.) If you are directly plugged into the modem, you should get an IP address, qualified domain name and a gateway address, plus two Domain Name Server (DNS) addresses. If you didn't receive the required information, you will not have a Qualified domain name or the DNS addresses, but my have some wierd ip address that windows picks by default. You could try releasing the address by typing 'ipconfig /release' and then 'ipconfig /renew' to get a new network settings.

This should work. If it doesn't, I'd recommend calling your RR support people and have them help you because its hard to diagnose problems on a message board.

Once you do get your computer connected while its hard wired to the modem, you can put the router back and try the wireless after you configure the router. (we will assume that it is/was configured since your old PC worked with it). Your biggest problem is to set up your wireless card in your new Dell PC and make sure it is
a: installed with the correct driver
b: configured so it can see all the networks, including yours
c: connect to your wireless network (this may require a password you set before).

I don't know how you had your wireless router/network set up. Did you have dhcp enabled or did you use static IP addresses? Did you encrypt your traffic or did you leave it wide open? Did you broadcast your SSID? My guess is that you left your wireless network set up with the basic settings in which case it woudl be wide open. If you had a technician configure it, he might have enabled some security settings and added some password that you will need to figure out and add to your wireless network settings on your new PC.

My guess is that since you didn't change your modem or wireless network, your problem is with the configuration of your wireless network card. As a result, it would probably be in your best interest to figure out how your wireless network is set up so that you can enter the required information on your PC. It should be easy to tell if you can make a wireless connection. Windows will show you a list of wireless networks which may show nothing, just your network, or a whole bunch of networks. I would suggest you try to connect to your network. If a connection is made, it will show it somewhere next to your clock in the lower right corner, probably with some green bars. If you don't see any networks, then your wireless router is turned off, disabled, reset or broken. If you see networks but don't know which one is yours, then you need to figure out your wireless network settings. If there is only one, its a good chance that is your wireless network. If you can't connect then you probably need to figure out your password. To figure it out, you will need to make a hard ethernet connection to your router and then connect to it with your internet browser. In the wireless configuration section it will show you any passwords you may have set.

That is all I can say/recommend on the subject. If you can connect to your router and it has an RR assigned IP address/network information then things should work. If you can't connect to your router then your problem is local and might want to ask the neighborhood geek to help you out. If you can connect to your router, but it doesn't receive the RR network info and/or can't connect to the internet, then call RR support and have them help you.

You could stop by some local PC store and see if they are willing to come out and get paid for one hours work to fix your problem. Most charge between $40 to $60 for one hours worth of work. Alternatively, BestBuy has the GeekSquad. I haven't dealt with them, but they can also help usually. In metro areas there are companies that specifically will travel to your house and fix your PC for a reasonable price. I know the DC/leesburg area has one company. I see their cars driving around all the time.
