That video you posted in the Music forum pretty much summed him up.

Maybe he'll get a plush coffin.

Too bad. Heroin addiction is a bitch.

Weiland developed a reputation over the years for putting on shitty shows. Too fucked up to perform like a professional. That's the worst way to go out.

While STP was a good band, they were always pretty overrated. Good...but not great.

I was a young teen when the grunge scene hit the mainstream, so this is a bit of a sour loss. I heard through the years that Weiland was very difficult to deal with, but dude had a unique voice and STP will always be a in my top five. Save your music snobbery posts for someone else. I'm not reading them.

I liked Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits... oh, that's the one you didn't want mentioned.

They were a much better band before Eddie Vedder came along and pulled his grift on a dead man's "estate."

They didn't play STP on KIKK or KILT.

I grew up with 80s music and early 90s music. Still love all the one hit wonders of the 80s. If it isn't 80s or Texas country I won't hear it now and likely wouldn't have heard it back in HS. There was this embarrassing period where the suburban kids were into Beastie Boys, NWA, MC Hammer, Run DMC, etc. Out of all of that the only stuff I might listen to today is the Run DMC stuff and that is only because Darryl McDaniel was my neighbor in a Philly suburb for a few months.

That would be true if Matt Cameron had transitioned over to Ten-era Pearl Jam.

Rack you, Rumps! Both are great albums. I'd say Vs is probably their best. I'm most partial to Riot Act, though, as it was when I really discovered the band.

Not sure I follow. Pretty sure Cameron was with Soundgarden through that era... but my memory of that, like many other memories of growing up in the U&L during that time, is a little fuzzy.

Gossard and Ament were the guys that, along with Wood, gave MLB their distinct sound. That sound carried directly over to PJ.

But they all were kind of rip-offs of Green River.

Yes.

Are you suggesting PJ is just another middling northwest grunge band scrapping every penny if he doesn't die?

Obviously quite subjective.

But this U&L grunge scene guy wholeheartedly believes so.

The way the late 80's/early 90's Seattle scene went, it's easy to get confused, what with all the "inbreeding" of the bands at the time. Throw in Temple of the Dog, and no one remembers exactly who was in what band.

I understand that. Let's say he lives but his addiction is bringing down the band and they decide to go in a different direction. They boot Wood, bring in EV and The Mookie Blaylock band forms.

Wood is still living and TMBB becomes Pearl Jam. What then?

Layne was my man.

Although according to AiC, and many others, they weren't "grunge."

As far as the Seattle area guitar players of the era, Jerry was head and shoulders above the rest.

Ed could be called an alcoholic. Not sure if he drinks as much as he used to.

McCready was addicted to heroin. I don't think Jeff and Stone were on anything. Same for the drummers.

I have an old friend who had a moderately successful thrash band which originally formed in Seattle at that time(moved back to Portland eventually), and kind of ran in those circles. I'm pretty sure he'd beg to differ.

I thought that LS was about my vintage, but, I guess you are a few years younger. Might as well be 100 years.

I am a '63 model, which means I am barely old enough to have experienced the last few years of the classic rock era, first hand. Not sure if 80s hair metal is considered classic rock. I definitely do not consider 90s grunge CR, but, it sure as hell is a step up from 80s big hair metal.

Rack Andy Granitelli and his STP suit BTW. That thing is awesome. I wonder if it is still around? I'll bet there are old school Indy car fans who would pay a few bucks for it. Personally, when I think of STP, I think of King Richard and his superbird. The highwater mark of neckcar, as far as I am concerned. Yeah, today it has far better commercial success, but, what they run today is an awful long way from anything resembling a stock car.
