My senior year at the University of Maine there was a price war going on and gas was 18¢ a gallon. Hell they were giving it away. Filled up my '55 Chevy for $2.50.
$1.66 here now. I expect it to go back up as OPEC shuts off some spigots.

Anyone driving a diesel is getting hosed. The tax differential between RUG and diesel is such that diesel is going to always be 20-50 cents more. The increased mpg made diesel attractive at 4 bucks a gallon, but not so much at a buck and a half. Poor fukks that paid a premium for a TDI a few years back are now paying more on a $/mile basis than the gassers. Plus you have to deal with the VW emissions shenanigans which are likely to end up in your TDI's CPU being reflashed with non-cheating software and you'll give up another 3-5 mpg. I was actually mulling around the idea of buying a new TDI Golf a few years back. Sure glad I passed.

Too bad there are dumbfukks down at the Chevy store right now dropping 60 or 70 K on a new Suburban because gas is cheap. I suspect we'll be back over 3 bucks before they get a 1/4 way through their payments. I like cheap gas as much as any cheap fukk, but I wish it would just settle down at a reasonable price. I think somewhere in the two fity/three dollar range would be good. The price would be high enough that the domestic producers could keep working and low enough for normal people without 88 money to be able to fill their tanks without taking a second mortgage.

Last time we saw buck a gallon here was around '98 or 99.

Yep, drove right by there after work and was wondering what all the traffic was about. Northbound wasn't too bad but southbound was a parking lot backed up all the way to Claycomo. Must have been a wreck further south. That whole area around 435 & 210 is a clusterfuck during rush hour.

Greedy airline corporations? When Bernie Sanders is elected, he'll "socialize" them and air travel will be free. Or it could be a multiple of reasons like, cracking less jet fuel in winter, higher airport landing fees, etc.---where's Left Seater when you need him ?

$1.74 a gallon for my diesel. Gas isn't much cheaper than that at $1.29. As for the airlines, they're saving up/recouping the money they've haven't been making for a long time. Delta's smart though-- they're refining their own fuel these days.

I paid $1.56 for diesel the other day.

Diesel will continue to get closer and closer to RUG as the demand here in the states continues to go up. It's one of the first things cut in refining crude, so it's actually cheaper to process than gasoline. It's just the demand overseas has always made it more profitable to export and kept the price relatively high domestically.

Toyota and Nissan are rolling out 1/2 ton diesels this year
which will provide damn good fuel mileage plus the torque and towing capacity needed in order to satisfy a crap ton of consumers looking for that all-in-one vehicle.

I'll stick with my 3/4 ton megacab for now. I'm kind of a bad ass when I drive that behemoth around town.

Well, rack Oregon then. Everywhere in the U&R and any place else I have been, that has not been the case. CT is about the worst. We tax the buhjeezus out of diesel. It is still well over 2 bucks. Might be cracking 250 by now. And I really don't understand why they would do that in a fukking state where a very sizable chunk of the population wanders over a border every now and then. Both RI and MA have lower diesel prices. Not sure about NY.

I really do need to look at bailing from this shithole before the entire state turns into Detoilet-east. A few weeks ago GE announced they were moving their headquarters from Fairfield to Beantown. They did this after telling Malloy they would if he put through a rather onerous tax raise. He did and they did. One more very nice tax payer telling the state to fukk the fukk off. When a corporation moves to Taxachussetts for a better tax deal, you know something is really fukking wrong.

Airfare is unbelievably cheap these days. Further when you factor in inflation airfare has never been cheaper. The question you should be asking is why are airlines still add fuel surcharges to flights when oil is so cheap. Assuming you had asked that the answer is because it allows airlines to alter their fares with one entry instead of having to adjust thousands of individual fares. The fuel surcharges were never tied to the cost of fuel nor were they trying to capture what fuel was costing the airlines. Instead it was a way to raise prices without much backlash. Now they use it to adjust fares across the board. Raise the fuel surcharge $2 and suddenly every fare you have is $2 more expensive.

Oh, the Seaters are in the market for a new Suburban or Expedition. Has zero to do with current gas prices and everything to do with the fact the current one is 8 years old and nearing 160k in miles. Gas prices rise and fall and will continue to do so. Therefore anyone purchasing a car strictly on that is at today's prices is short bus worthy.

No way in hell we will pay $70k for one and I doubt we will be at $60 either. I would assume that prices are higher in the district and the mid Atlantic area though.

As a purchasing agent at my company, I asked that question of my large aluminum and steel suppliers 4 years ago. Fuel and freight costs need to be calculated and quoted in the with price per lb. of the metal, not after. At one time, every one of these vendors was adding fuel surcharges to the invoices, causing me to spend twice as much time approving these invoices for vouchering as I had to drill back into the purchase order and add that line item and cost.

I got tired of having to spend extra time doing that and asked/demanded that they remove the fuel surcharges. It took awhile but once I got one supplier to do it, the rest fell like dominoes since they all compete against each other for the same business.

That was the system in place that I walked into after getting off the forklift. Freight was included but they always tacked on the fuel surcharge until I complained enough to get it removed.

With the wild price fluctuations, freight carriers are pretty much stuck with having to use a moving fuel charge. How the fukk else could they price work? This yoyoing of fuel prices fukks everybody in business. Sometims I wonder if it is just one more way the muzzies are fukking us.
