I spent a bunch of weekends in Amsterdam about 40 years ago. Back then the "red light district" was basically where all the nightlife was. Bars (including hash bars), restaurants, canals, crowded streets, red lit windows with women of various descriptions on display. Prolly pretty much the same today.

I remember walking down the street as the Salvation Army Band was playing on the street corner, and ran into my neighbor from across the street in Del Mar doing basically the same thing we were doing (bar hopping).
