His prices reflect the market. He's playing clubs, not arenas And he's doing a lot to prevent scalping. No print from home for Mudcrutch, for example.

Re: Concert Plans
Bit on Santana end of August hoping most of his first band will be assembled. Their Santana IV album sounds similar to the first 3 but is more refined.
Checked out the Rides last night at Balboa Theater, I was happy with the show they sounded great (w/ ear plugs). Played songs from their 2 albums along with KWS Deja Voodoo and a couple CSN songs. Kenny was terrific on guitar and Stills surprised me with his ability also, both sounded good singing too. That's something considering Stills age.
Oh yeah, phone cameras suck....
Oh yeah #2, Bill Walton was sitting 2 rows behind me towards the middle of the stage on the aisle.

Sounds like a great show, and it looks like you had great seats. I've never gotten a good picture at a concert with my iphone. They always come out blurred.
The Balboa theater is a great venue. We saw Taj Mahal and John Hiatt there last year. Trying to think of who else in the past - maybe the Flecktones.

Re: Concert Plans
That was my first time to Balboa Theater, a very nice venue with some history. I lucked out on the seats as they were labeled "extreme view". For most of the show I didn't see Barry Goldberg, but all else was about as good as it gets. I have tickets for Bonamassa in December up in the Balcony. I took a look at the balcony from where I was sitting, and it was up there, but didn't seem all that far back. I'm sure I'll notice a difference, lol. Those balcony seats were about twice what I paid for this show.
The last thing I'll say about The Rides is they were enjoying themselves. It was apparent they liked one another & playing together.

Re: Concert Plans
Marc Ford, the former lead guitarist for the Black Crows was playing at the Belly Up Tavern last night with his band the Neptune Blues Club. I listened to them at Allmusic and thought they sounded good, so I checked them out. They were better than I expected, and were similar to the Rides (rockin' blues). Ford does most of the singing, and plays a soulful/blues guitar that is quite good and somewhat unique.
Another good night at the Belly Up.

I was at a great concert yesterday...
Saw Savoy Brown at the Hollywood Bowl. Kenny Loggins was the opening act. He played one of my favourite Kiss covers..."Deuce".
Had a great time...I was pretty wiped after the show.

Do they still exist? They were a great late 60s Brit-Blues band but I think some original members left to form Foghat.Joe in PB wrote:I'd like to see Savoy Brown some day.

Yes they still exist, some members left, singer I think, but they're still kickin' after 40+ years.
I picked up this album a year or so ago.

Re: Concert Plans
Yes, adding Michael McDonald was a big mistake, except that Minute by Minute was their only album that charted #1 (for five weeks), went triple platinum and won four Grammy's including record of the year, song of the year and pop vocal performance, and was nominated for album of the year.
McDonald was asked to join the band when Tom Johnston was too sick to tour or record and they needed a lead vocalist. And McDonald wasn't "shown the door". They basically broke up in 1981 when Simmons split and there were no "original" members left. They got back together about 5 years later when a supposedly one-off reunion was successful and they started touring again. By then McDonald was well into a successful solo career and probably wouldn't have fit in anyway.
Whether you like the Michael McDonald "period" or not, his time with the band was their most successful commercially and, arguably, artistically. Sort of like when Buckingham/Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac. Completely different sound and, to some, a step in the wrong direction, but you can't argue with success. Personally, I like both versions of the band, and Minute by Minute is a great album with a lot of great songs. And no, they don't sound anything like Little Feat OR disco.
And BTW, they were basically a local band from San Jose when I was in HS on the Peninsula so I'm not exactly talking out my ass.

I would pay just to see Los Lobos, and have in the past.
I have tickets for TTB in San Diego but the opener is Niki Bluhm and the Gramblers.
Last time I saw TTB it was with Doyle Bramhall II, and Sharon Jones and the Daptones. That was a great show, BTW.

Re: Old Men's Concert Plans
The headliners. I spent most of the show thinking this is as close to an Allman Brothers concert as anyone is going to get. Great show, even if I sometimes caught myself wondering how often Derek could play the same backwards slide guitar sound.
The dude singing here is named Mike Mattison, and I would pay to watch him do a show. He sings with the soul of Sam Cooke and the ferocity of James Brown. In a just world he would have already sold 20 million CDs.
Los Lobos. Just as beautiful as the last two times I saw them.
North Mississippi All Stars. Far too short a set. Of course anything under two hours would have been too short. Forty minutes of in your face blues. And half of the set were Howling Wolf or Willie Dixon written tunes.
Great venue too. Not a bad seat. That's the left side of the hill. There were more on the right side.

Nice pics. Looks like a great venue for an outdoor show.
I think Mike Mattison was the lead singer for the Derek Trucks Band before he got together with Susan.

Indeed that is true. I have Derek Trucks live album Road Songs from 2010, Mattison sings through out, terrific album. Never understood why TT band don't use him more as a lead, it would provide the band another dimension, similar to Trampled Under Foot when both brother & sister sang.Damn, and he took relegation like that? Looks like it was a superb show, I'd like to see the North Mississippi Allstars some time. Nice photos Brian.
Next on the docket for me is Robert Cray, on the 23rd at the Belly Up Tavern.
