There's something happening here
what it is ain't exactly clear. Sorry, I was a big fan of Buffalo Springfield. Well, this week brings "The Open" to the shores of Scotland, where world players will battle it out with Troon....they'll be fighting with this course all week, especially if the wind kicks up.....one of the really great par 3's in the world is number 8 also known as "Postage Stamp"
a shot of no more than 125 yards, but one of the holes that is truly terrifying to a good score.....miss the green and you'll likely end up in one of the 5 deeeeep bunkers surrounding the hole.....hit it in there, and it's just as likely you'll make double bogey or worse.....players will be hitting for the middle of the green no matter where the pin is at because if you hit and stay on the green, you've definitely got a shot at a birdie....they don't call it postage stamp for nothing......
the outward nine is the easier of the two, and the inward nine will be where the majority of the damage to players scores will be done.....Troon is really one of the unknown courses in the Open rotation, but a great test none the less....
winner-Jason Day
dark horse-Sergio Garcia
low round of the tournament-65, probably by multiple players
surprising guesstimate-I don't think Dustin Johnson will finish in the top 10......
as usual, predictions aren't valid until the monday after completion of the tournament so everybody can get their predictions right.....
let's hear it....

Tough call. Sometimes the classic Open courses favor the cagey old vets -- maybe one of the geezers like Els or Phildo, or even Paddy.
But Rory is about due to do something.
And Stenson will win a major, sooner or later.

Re: There's something happening here
no doubt, the guy is too good of a ball striker not to cash in on a major sometime in the future.....maybe here.....those guys that play on the Euro tour have a distinct advantage over most PGA guys because they play courses like Troon all the time......well not as tough, but similar weather, similar course conditions, etc. btw a buddy of mine that's about a 2 handicap went and played the old course at St. Andrews and his assessment was "it's a fucking goat track"....I think all those courses are like that....Dinsdale wrote:

I like Day to win. Dark horse, John Daly.

Doesn't one have to go 2 in a row before they can get 3?buckeye_in_sc wrote:DJ goes for 3 in a row...
You can't win a tournament on Thursday, but you can sure lose one... 75.BSmack wrote:Dark horse, John Daly.

prophetic......too bad you didn't have £50 to drop on a bet on Stenson....if I'm not mistaken I think he went off at 25-1 odds....easy way to pick up £1,250 for a nice little £1,200 profitDinsdale wrote:Stenson will win a major, sooner or later.

Johnny Miller will never again be able to say he's the only one to close a major win with a 63. And it happened with him in the booth. Spectacular. Yea, I was pulling for Lefty. But give Stenson credit, that was massively great golf.

no doubt, one of the best rounds in a major championship I've ever seen.....almost rivals Nicklaus's 65 in 1986 at Augusta....almost...
