So sorry this has caused such grief.Mikey wrote:Goober McTuber wrote:No. I posted what was reported here in Madison, because I knew that it didn't align with Dinsdale's table. I'll have to admit in one area you are without peer. Absolutely the #1 last word whore in the history of last word whoredom.

Re: Rack this heat wave!
Geez, I didn't mean for (correctly) calling Goods out on bullshit (which it was, and I thought KC Dave recently called everyone out on such bullshit) would cause a geriatric war.
But...
Birmingham tried to get foggy at night (at 96% RH). Saw fairly thick fog in Charleston, SC at 75 degrees. Tampa got a little foggy at 80.
But those places are Nome, Alaska compared to the Rio Grande Valley. McAllen, TX... it didn't even seem real. I've visited the Sacramento Delta in July, and it's downright frigid compared to the RGV. It's my understanding that by being right on the Gulf, it keeps the temps down a bit in Brownsville... go upriver a few miles, and it's game on. Went from McAllen to Albuquerque, and the 102 there (30% RH) seemed downright pleasant.
But in my neck of the woods, it started warming up today. Mid 80's, with a little more humidity than is typical. Supposed to inch up all week, into the low 90's. Last couple of summers (I was gone most of last summer) have been hot as fuck -- this year, it's been nice. After an early heat wave, it's been mid/upper 70's, with the occasional light-overcast day (usually don't see many clouds here in summer). Heck, we've even had some very light rain here and there (I think many of you don't realize that west of the Rockies, it rarely rains in summer, except right along the coastline (depending on latitude). Clouds make time sitting on the Columbia (in an open boat) fishing for salmon much more pleasant.
But I have a hunch it's about to get hot for the Dog Days.
But...
After spending last summer sampling some of the hottest places the country has to offer -- 93 at 60% is not fucking around. It rarely cracks 60% at the peak afternoon temp anywhere if it's over 90.Mikey wrote:BTW, here's your weather for last Thursday.
According to NOAA your highest temperature was 93, and the RH was only 60 then. Pussy.

Now the Feds are telling workers to work from home if it is too hot to commute. WTF?
This is almost as bad as them saying "non essential" employees should stay home on snow days.

Is the "heat" preventing Google from working in DC too?

I actually don't see the problem with that. If they don't need to be at a physical office, let 'em work from home. I don't give a fuck.

In response to the story, so fucking what? They're not closing offices.
I figured you'd find something better to bunch your panties over, but I guess not.

On this we agree. The reason for the suggestion is what struck me as funny. It's too hot so don't come in if you don't want to. Like I said at least they didn't say non essential employees. Hell, any employee that is non-essential should be fired immediately.R-Jack wrote:I actually don't see the problem with that. If they don't need to be at a physical office, let 'em work from home. I know you're playing outraged, fist-waving conservative here but there are specific legal terms to "essential" and "non-essential" personnel.Left Seater wrote: On this we agree. Great so someone had to go to the trouble of setting a legal definition of the term. That would allow them to debate it in collective bargaining. All the more reason anyone with that designation should be let go yesterday.Screw_Michigan wrote:

Essential personnel are for continuity of government tasks...except for lawmakers. Why do you have a problem with this?Left Seater wrote: Great so someone had to go to the trouble of setting a legal definition of the term. Gold burried in the above link. During the shutdown new government regulations dropped from more than 400 a day to 12 a day.
It also says govt basically continued to function with 17% of the workforce not showing up. All the more reason to fire those non essential employees yesterday.
