I saw that show. Steve Allen was genius, and had all kinds of acts on his shows. I'm guessing a lot of his schtick was old vaudeville things. I believe his mother was a vaudevillian. There was The Question Man before Carson did Carnack. Steve Allen was the human tea bag before Letterman did stunts like that. Smock-smock!!

That Steve Allen bit is just a small part of the brilliance of "Eat That Question", the Zappa interview/bio pic out now on DVD.

Well worth the rental or purchase if you're a fan.
