Rack the Suns
As a Spurs fan, this series in general, and Game 5 in particular, scared the shit out of me.
The series could have gone either way, had Joe Johnson been healthy, imo. Most of the so-called "experts" were predicting it would go 7.
And had the Suns just hit a few more shots, they could have won tonight. I can think of two Stoudamire shots that were halfway down the rim but suddenly and unexplicably just bounced out tonight.
The Suns play with class and with no cheap fouls. It was nice to see a competative series without the cheap shots that so often typify NBA playoffs ('sup Denver ... Danny Fortson?).
And had the Spurs not been a little lucky in this game or in Game 2, there would be a game 6, no doubt about it.
At any rate, I expect Phx and Denver to be around in the next few years or so, every time the WCF roll around. With my Spurs in the mix, every once in a while.
If I weren't a die-hard Spurs fan, and just a casual observer of the NBA, I'd be a Phx fan.
And for all you Nash haters, I'd take him over the overrated, overhyped Lummox, any day.
Out.

Good series.
At least I didn't have to deal with another game 6 loss.
The better team won in this case (and I'm not going to the sourgrapes card and wonder about what could have been if not for Stackhouse KOing JJ).
In this case, better because of depth and playoff experiance.
Phoenix should get more of the first in the offseason and they now have a bit of the second.
Go Spurs.
Is it football season yet?

Any Sun's fan who is thinking "maybe next year" needs to be brought back down to earth.
As long as Nash is leading this team, you will not win it all. He is what he is, an exciting and flashy player who is fun to watch.
I'm a Rockets fan, but I lived in Dallas from '99 to '04. I saw a LOT of Steve Nash. He is a player who plays balls to the wall on offense while being a paper defender. Half or more of what he puts up on offense is given up by his pathetic defense, if you can call it that.
Add to that the fact he is always "tired" at the end of the regular season due to so many minutes played and you have a team that has to incorporate some bench player for additional minutes if you want fresh legs on the court.
Nash will entertain you. He will not win it for you. Suns fan, enjoy the new John Stockton...only this version won't last near as long. Nash has 2 or 3 good years left in him.

Nash has Stoudamire and other quality players at Phx ... much better talent than he ever had at Dallas. All Phoenix needs is a few more role players off the bench and a bit more experience and they can be right there. Stoudamire and Joe Jackson are only going to get better over the next few years. Add a few quality role players in the mix and they will be very dangerous indeed.

Let's see...
Nash had Novitski, Finley, A. Walker, A. Jameson, Raja Bell to name a few. Plenty more role players. He never had a big man nor does he at Phoenix. Phoenix plays Nellie ball. Nellie ball has never won the championship, nor do I see it winning in the near future.
Phoenix plays NO defense and has NO big man.
A few role players from winning it all? Ok, good job. You just described half the league...

I guess you dont like winning championships. Great insight there buttplug.

It's really no surprise that you're just another lummox nutrider. You've made that pretty clear.Cicero wrote:I guess you dont like winning championships. Great insight there buttplug.

Btw, I'd like a prediction before Wednesday on the Finals, if you can. I need to know when I can celebrate and stuff. Plus I want to send e-mails to Mark Stein and Screamin' A. Smith ... HA HA ElvisMonster was right again, and you fucks were wrong --- bwaahahaaaaa!!
Dio, don't mind Cicero. He's just another reincarnated clueless tard from ToT. Besides, it's hard enough for him having to type with one hand, besides Shaq's nutsack swinging in front of his nose.

Hell yeah. Shaq is the shit. Anyone who says he is overrated or overhyped needs to lay off the crack. I would take Shaq in his prime over any other center in NBA history.

If you are seriously going to try to compare today's NBA to that of even 15-20 years ago, then this discussion is over. It is a MUCH different game now.Diogenes wrote:You've got a point there, Phoenix doesn't have the kind of big man it takes to win championships.
BTW, who would you say was the dominant player in the late '80s/early '90s?
Laimbeer or Cartwright?
Also, the Pistons in the 80's and Bulls in the early 90's were a lot like they are now. Defense first and we'll score a few points. The Suns DO NOT PLAY DEFENSE. No defense, no championship. Bury your head in the sand if you want and live in denial.

Re: Rack the Suns
You take Shaq. I'll take Hakeem any day of the week. Shaq has even admitted that the only center in the NBA he ever feared going up against was Hakeem. He had a couple inches on Hakeem, but Hakeem dominated him, offensively and defensively.Cicero wrote:RadioFan wrote:It's really no surprise that you're just another lummox nutrider. Ummmmm......no.
Shaq was the NBA's marketing tool in those prime years. The poster child recieves unfair advantage from the officials(tell me you knew). If Hakeem was still at his peak, he would have been the one getting the whistles. At his peak, Hakeem was allowed to reach down into the hoop, and pull shots back out of the basket, without being called. Plus, Shaq didn't get any stronger during the 98-02 years. When they went head-to-head, Hakeem absolutely had his way with Shaq. Fire upthe time machine, and Hakeem will kill any incarnation of Shaq. Not even close. Hakeem had more strength, and several times more agility and ability. Not even close.

But it was If who made the original point.
Now if the Suns could just get a dominant center like Cartwright.......

Shaq>(h)Akeem
Shaq<Nash
Shaq has the third highest winning percentage of all-time on three different teams and rosters. That is amazing. Shaq would break Olajuwon in half. They played in what? Shaq's third year? This is like crack central in here.

The point is that a traditional dominant center is not a prerequisate to winning titles.IndyFrisco wrote:If you are seriously going to try to compare today's NBA to that of even 15-20 years ago, then this discussion is over. And if you are trying to pace the Suns, stamina IS.
Which wears more on the big man trying to dog Stodemiere than anyone else.
