Can't say it's terribly shocking when a musician with a long history of drug abuse kicks. Surprised you're still with us.

Is it true he had a band around his neck?
No wonder he died so young. Suicide or sex game, both are wack ways to die.

He has three kids, and couldn't hold it together for them. Robin Williams was going through terminal illness and wasn't all there, anyway; but this mother fucker ...
what's his excuse to do this to his kids?

Re: This would qualify as SUCK.
It's hard for me to rank them -- so many were such a huge part of my early adulthood. Coming of age in the U&L came with its own soundtrack.
But I'd probably put AIC at #1.
I think the laser in my CD player wore a groove through Soungarden's Badmotorfinger when it came out, though.
Mother Love Bone was a huge favorite. Then Andy died, and Pearl Jam was born. I played the hell out ofPearl Jam's Greatest Hits Ten.
On the fringes, there was Mudhoney, Green River (which kind of became Mother Love Bone and Mudhoney -- such an inbred tree of bands), Malfunkshun, and Melvins.
But Soundgarden and AIC really led the way. Was a great time to be young in the PNW.

There'll of course be a tribute to CC tonight in the 'Town. Light a candle & join the vigil.
Re: This would qualify as SUCK.
Grunge, almost always, sucked. It was nothing more than watered down protest music with a bit of psudo psychology mixed in. It is absolutely no suprise that Dims thinks its great.

Very doubtful you can define it.Moving Sale wrote:Grunge

That doesn't even make sense.with a bit of psudo psychology mixed in.
Try again... use your words.
It's no "suprise" that a guy who grew up in the Northwest during the "Grunge Era" enjoyed the bands that cut their teeth playing shows in the Northwest (Satyricon, Pine Street Theater, Starry Night... all gone, BTW) enjoyed those bands? It is absolutely no suprise that Dims thinks its great.
You... not very smart.

Re: This would qualify as SUCK.
Yes your early adulthood came with a soundtrack and that soundtrack sucked. A bunch of bands that took themselves too seriously. How surprising that you enjoyed them.
As for your local bands, yeah we had great local bands too. Wgaf about yours? Nobody gives a fuck about mine.

Unlistenable crap for the most part. Unless, I suppose, you're on heroin. Which I never did thank God and gOD.

Great take. I mention the bands of the Northwest of the late 80's/90's, and you ask "wgaf"?
Gee, let me think...
Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam ( I didn't mention Nirvana, because I'm not a big fan)...
Hmmm....
Besides being from the NW, what do they have in common?
That's right -- they all had a #1 overall (not genre-specific) album/disc, some more than one. If'n I'm not mistaken, AIC is the only band to ever hit #1 with an EP.
If there's an ounce of ability in your subpar brain to feel shame, this would be a great time for it to kick in.
But to answer your question directly -- "tens/hundreds of millions of people."
Idiot.

I'm just going to stop here right now and say that I have never heard a bad Alice in Chains song. And I'm on the other side of the continent from Dinsdale.

I'll have to admit I'm not at all up on AiC so I'll probably have to give a listen. Nirvana and Pearl Jam though I saw and/or heard a few times and decided I had better uses for my listening time.
To each their own though. My musical tastes aren't exactly mainstream.

Midget Scale wouldn't know quality music if it bit him in his tiny ass. Hell, he doesn't even know how to categorize punk, let alone grunge.
He is one incredibly insipid and stupid tiny fuck.

You got to give props to the song when you first hear it and you think is that going to turn into a Zeppelin cover and then it doesn't.Dinsdale wrote:Greatness.

Actually, this surprises me a bit from you. After PJ's initial effort, there wasn't a whole lot of "grunge" going on. They kind of became a modernized folk band.Mikey wrote:Pearl Jam though I saw and/or heard a few times and decided I had better uses for my listening time.

YOU dissed PJ as being lame except for Ten and he disses PJ in general, so I don't understand why you're getting me into this.Dinsdale wrote:

But you have some semblance of a point. PJ's non-grunge albums are very underrated (I like Riot Act and Binaural) and my favorite grunge era album of theirs as Vitalogy then Go.

Face it, they're a hopped-up folk band... not that there's anything wrong with that.
On a side note -- I watched the R&R HoF induction thing. In the last segment, I said to myself (and the Girl, who is a huge fan)... "Ohhhhh, FUCK! They're going to put a microphone in front of Eddie for something besides singing. Shit."
And I was right. About 20 minutes later, they rocked it, though. I felt cheated that he didn't thank Andy Wood for dying, which is what put him on the map (I'm sure he would have done well, but Chris Cornell made him, and he took over Andy's band).

At this point in life, save it for when your pet dies. Or you get fired from your job. Or your corner market stops selling your favorite beer.
While brilliant, it ain't happy shit. Not one thing they ever did could be described as "upbeat."
