There are a few contemporary bands that are undoubtedly better live.
Exibit A
Another that comes to mind is The Strypes.
Of older bands I would go with Rush. They are good in the studio, but they are fukking great live.
Better in the studio?
LZ for starters. They had some amazing live stuff, but weren't consistently great live. Part of this is that Page was a motherfukking witch in the studio.
