Vegas shooting

WTF?

Old white dude?

Just a whack job?

What was he shooting? There is talk of fully auto assault rifle such as an M16. Given the level of carnage, I think it might have been more. Some sort of crew served weapon like maybe a 240B. These were fairly long shots and I don't know the an M16 round at that range has that sort of killing power.

He obviously had the capacity to deliver a serious amount of ordinance in a fairly short time. Vegas Police were reporting that over 400 people were taken to the hospital. That doesn't count the people who checked themselves in or who were dead on scene.

First I heard of this tragedy was on the radio by a Los Angeles CBS affiliate, second thing mentioned after the act itself was the perpetrator was white. Why do I think if the person was black no mention of race would have been provided?

Hundreds of thousands of mentally ill walk our streets and are ignored. Some are homeless, some work at the post office, others are in the work force, welfare, or are retirees like this douchebag.

We don't deal with the mentally ill in this country, we deal with mass shootings, knifings, assault by car, fertilizer bombs, etc.

Understand your point, I also hear about the other side of the situation. My gf works as a psycho therapist for a local school district. The kids are covered by the state of California, quite a few have weekly couseling and are prescribed medication from grade school until they graduate HS.

After that they're on their own, including those with psychotic and bi-polar depression. Not good.......

Doubt that. I was at The Eagles / Doobie Brothers concert in Seattle Saturday night. Heavy police presence, metal detectors,explosive dogs and heavy security. Of course that was just the venue, plenty of other fields of fire available. Going to Vegas in December for a George Strait concert.

Dude had 23 fucking guns. Chances are he had something a lot more powerful than a .223 AR style rifle. M16 is the military designation for the .223 rifle. They are pretty solid out to 300 yards. He knew what he was doing. If he had .308 caliber semi automatic, he could easily reach out 600 yards with lethal results. I am sure the full listing will be released some day. Semi auto at the least to move that many rounds that fast.

That would not be that uncommon of a round in a 23 gun selection. Getting them into the hotel must have taken a few trips with a golf case. Security in most hotels in Vegas is pretty much confined to the gaming floors, with random looks at entry and exit. I was at the Excalibur in March and one could easily pull that off. Vegas is a soft target, lots of people, lots of ethnic types, lot of crazy fuckers around.

As to the shooting, my first reaction when it was reported that Paddock had multiple rifles up in his room, and with the high volume of fire coming from it, that he had modified the weapons to fire automatically and had preloaded a number of these modified rifles because of how hot the barrel gets from rocking on auto. A 30 round mag fired continuously will make an AR barrel, if not red hot, warm enough to burn flesh. It'll warp the trajectory of a round at a certain point due to the heating and flexibility of the hot metal.

That being said, from his position, all he would have had to do would be aim low and let the barrel rise as he burnt through the mag. Drop the gun, pick up his next one, repeat until he was out of rifles with fresh mages in them, reload the empty guns, and cycle through them over and over. The fact that he really didn't have to aim considering how densely packed the venue was negates any concern for accuracy. He just needed to keep feeding the chamber.

However, the initial reports are saying that only one rifle was fully automatic. So between that information and the long pauses between bursts of fire, I don't know what he was doing in between empty mags.

Additionally, he is reported to be a multimillionaire with no particular ties to a political party, religion, or creed. And ISIS has repeatedly said he is one of theirs, although there is no evidence of that yet.

Beyond the sheer horror of it, the weirdness of this mass shooting is off the charts.

Don't think it was a modified semi into a fully auto. If he was well off, he could have purchased or obatained illegally or dude went to the trouble of getting his Class III and FFL

For those of you who say that we need more mental health treatment, consider that mental health is part of medical care. And both Trumpcare bills would have taken away healthcare from dozens of millions of people. And GOP let 9 million children lose heathcare at the end of last month.

Any idiot can manufacture/modify the parts to go full auto plus you can squeeze off rounds damn near as fast in semi mode.

The semi/full auto firearm has been with us for over a century. Ban it if you want. Those motivated to get one will build one if they have to. We simply can't make all the scary things go away. Remember the muzzie that killed more people, with a fukking box truck.

And I have a secret for you, silencers don't on supersonic rounds.
