Starbucks

Post by smackaholic »

What do you fukks think about this philly starbucks BS?

I think it is pretty fukking obvious what happened. These dudes rolled in, prolly to use their wifi and take a leak. They may or may not have intended to make a purchase when their homie showed up, but I doubt it.

An employee noticed they were loitering and asked them to either make a purchase or leave. They are 100% within their rights to do this. It is a fukking restaurant, not a public library.

Those fukkers could have either bought a horribly priced coffee or picked up their shit and left. They did neither. They made the conscious decision to sit there and create a scene. This is criminal tresspassing. It is illegal. Even for white folks.

And you know g0d damn well why. They knew that once things got interesting, all the liberal, white guilt ridden assholes that were in there would have their iphones at the ready to record yet another example of a brotha gettin' held down by the man. And that a few minutes in cuffs would be worth the payday that follows.

This is fukked up, and I would back Starbucks if they dealt with these tresspassing freeloading shitstains as they should, but you knew damn well Starbucks would melt into a quivering apologizing blob of goo. Fortunately the PPD commisioner, a balck dude, isn't playing that shit and is backing his officers 100% for doing their fukking job.

I am half tempted to stop into McD's today, get me a venti...errrrr large black coffee, then roll into SBs, sit down, have a sip of McD coffee, pull out my laptop and see what happens.

What is your policy regarding use of facilities without paying?

I am on the road a lot. If I have to take a leak, I will typically look for the closest McD's and if there aren't ridiculous lines, buy a cup of coffee or an iced tea even if I wasn't really looking for one at the time. I figure it's just the right thing to do.

One other thing I've noticed. the "restrooms are for customers" signs seem to be much more prevalent at establishments in the hood.

Why is this?

Is it because the owner of the establishment hates mvscals? Or is it because in the hood, the local vermin will abuse the fukk out of this service? Kind of like these fukks were doing.

And will someone 'splain to me exactly how SB is going to train its employees to not be white supremacists? Will they just say fuggit. Anyone can come in and sit here all fukking day if they want?

I have one of those sissy helmets and I agree.

Bike cops should wear big heavy 3/4 helmets and mirror aviator glasses just like Ponch and John in Chips.

Unfortunately we now live in a society where many blacks want and get special treatment, and anybody who objects is a racist.

I stop into Starbucks when I get my car washed and always buy something while I wait and use their WiFi. They're a business and that is understood...for most.

I also saw yesterday that a black man went into a Starbucks and demanded a free reparation coffee because of the two free loaders who were arrested after being asked to either buy something or leave......

It is not mandatory to purchase anything in order to sit in Starbucks. It's polite, but not mandatory.

You're correct that management has the right to refuse service to anyone -- but pick your battles. Don't be Woolworths.

There are conflicting reports about whether she asked them to leave before calling the police.

The 'homie' they were waiting for was a white real estate agent. The real estate agent told the cops and the manager they were waiting for him. The cops arrested the men because it's not the real estate agent's property, it's Starbucks with the manager being the representative of Starbucks.

The black chief is a cop. Cops cover other cops.

Was the manager fired or just moved to a new location?

I got profiled in a grocery store in an unnamed village recently. It was only funny because the profiler was Hispanic. He was as much a foreigner there as I, so who told him to follow me then confront me? Then the driver of the cab I'd pre-negotiated 30 minutes time for came in a couple minutes later and said I'd been in there for 45 minutes. She asked me why I was shopping. That was a weird question, so I ignored it. I asked her to confirm I'd been in there 45 minutes? then showed her the time I placed the call to her dispatch on my cell and told her she was mistaken (it was 22 minutes since) and asked her if she wanted to continue, or if she wanted to break the deal. She said she could wait but hurry up. I told her I'd pay her, but I'd take another cab to my other destination. She was like no, no, I take you (Korean). I didn't want to deal with a cabby who lies, though. And she didn't want my presence or my money. I still tipped her, because the roads were crap, but I didn't tip her as much as the other cab drivers.

A man hung himself the night before last. If everyone lives 10 people deep, how can anyone suicide quietly? I didn't ask if he did it traditionally or Western noose style. The problem with suicides out here is copycatters. He was another in a long line of men who didn't see a place in the world for himself. The suicides who take off all of their clothes and lay in the snow too drunk to sense anything except the pain of their lives slipping away are counted as alcohol related deaths, not suicides. There is no drive to do something different. There is no reason Koreans (and Albanians) should own the cab industry. But the native population is strange about business opportunities, and family ties. I can almost see why they won't touch it, just as they won't touch being State Troopers or local officers. Becoming cab drivers isn't just about alcohol related offenses, but about a change in traditional thinking regarding service.

All of that to say, do you really believe those two men had no business being there, smackoholic?

I don't believe you. Were you and your wife also assaulted at a Black Panther premiere two months ago?

Yes, people should buy. But it is not mandatory, and Starbucks has built its entire business model around being loiter friendly.

Why are you loitering using their wifi instead of staying with your washed car?

What else did you do there? Who else did you notice?

A white dude, Annie says.

Well...

Appears to me that the Starbucks "braintrust" overreacted.

They should have just left them alone.

If the establishment has a big problem with many people just coming in and loitering there, then yeah, I guess you have to start to take a stand.
Or if the same dudes come in multiple times and just hang out there.

Sorry, but this seems to be a -----> YOU ARE BLACK kind of deal.

Not too cool.

For years, Starbucks has described its stores as a "third space" — a quasi-public place, away from home or the office, where anyone is welcome to hang out.

But the rules about that space are murky. They can vary from place to place, and even store to store. The way the rules are enforced isn't always consistent, either, which is how unconscious bias and discrimination can creep in.

A lot of people hang out for hours in Starbucks without buying anything.

When I was a "road warrior" on 100% travel we often used Starbucks as our office away from home, holding meetings there etc. Usually bought something but never felt it was a requirement. Also never had a problem waiting there for a co-worker or client before buying something.

Of course I'm not a nasty looking black dude so I probably wouldn't have scared smackaholic or Pussy in PB too much.

Joe, please tell me that you were joking when you heard some dude ask for free reparation coffee. Too funny.

As to the OP, I think there may be some context to this story that is missing. I notice that the bathroom has a lock on it which requires either a key or a code from the barista. This tells me that vagrants are a problem. Now that it is clear Starbucks policy is that no one will be denied entry for any reason, that particular coffee shop is going to see dozens of bums sleeping on the furniture, thus driving legitimate business away.

One thing which I think is stupid is that Starbucks is having training on unconscious bias. This has been shown to be complete farce psychologically. But hey, it’s a private company, so they can waste their money in any manner they choose.

Personally, I think Starbucks coffee tastes like shit, so I never buy any of their stuff. And the fact that Schultz sold my beloved Sonics to Oklahoma means that if he went bankrupt tomorrow I’d probably cheer. After all, I wanted the team plane when it was flying the players to OK to lose its wings in flight killing everyone aboard. But I digress.

This really is quite simple and standard policy in many places. The owners of an establishment don't owe you a free place to hang out. They welcome you in to buy shit. If you don't and expect to use their facilities, and are asked to leave and you don't, you are a tresspasser.

McD's is my office of choice. Good wifi. Cheap, passable coffee.

I would never think of using their restaurant as an office without buying something. As I said earlier, I feel bad enough about even taking a leak there without spending a buck. My general rule is, I will by a coffee, or more, if there is not a long line.

Starbucks, or any other business, is perfectly within their rights to do whatever they please regarding who they choose to serve or allow to hang out. I never said that they weren't.

You obviously are more comfortable in a place that would allow white folks to hang out but not scary looking black men. That's your choice.
Starbucks as a corporation, based on their response to this, just as obviously does not wish to project with that image.

The sign clearly says for customers only and that is why.
It's a question of volume. Obviously her store has enough volume. It hardly surprises me given where you guys are as Dinsdale tells us Oregon has invented drug abuse. And everything else for that matter.

White cops do shoot white criminals. White dudes do not get ushered out of Starbucks two minutes after entering for not yet buying anything. Don't be such a moron.

I can see my point soared over your head like a cloud.

The bottom line is if two white dudes got arrested in the same exact situation, it would not have been reported on the news. In other words the story has been blown out of proportion. Dudes could have bought something, or left the premises, instead they chose to be arrested.

Now go find a nice bottle of whiskey and enjoy your afternoon/evening.
