Syd Barrett
All members of Pink Floyd, interviewed individually (I think around 2005) about the origin of Pink Floyd and specifically Syd Barrett and what happened to him and how they reacted...
Rick Wright (keyboards)
Roger Waters (bass)
Nick Mason (drums)
David Gilmour (guitar)
Even though he's completely up his own ass, the Roger Waters interview is the longest and probably the most revealing. He was the most bothered and angry about Syd flaking out. In some way, I can see his point...they all invested so much and were on the precipice of greatness...and then Syd goes crackers...

Some of it is genius...and some of it...well...the engineer should have only pretended to hit REC...

That nailed it. Syd started off being experimental but then just became mental.Shlomart Ben Yisrael wrote:Papa Willie wrote:

Very interesting watching all of those interviews.
Haven't listened to Floyd in a while, but put in Meddle in on my drive this morning. Echoes is such an underrated song.

Re: Syd Barrett
Pink Floyd put together a pretty special run between 1970 and 1973. It's a pity fame caused them all to have nervous breakdowns after Dark Side blew up. It was like they had this dynamic down of always struggling to get any notice and they couldn't move past it.MuchoBulls wrote:Easily my favorite song from Pink Floyd

I'm pretty sure that Obscured by Clouds was released in 1972.Dinsdale wrote:Yet their best album came out in 1977.BSmack wrote:Pink Floyd put together a pretty special run between 1970 and 1973.

A nice little album that barely cracked the Billboard Top 50. Wish You Were Here was #1 on both sides of the pond. And rightfully so.

Popularity doesn't mean a thing to me. I love all Floyd but if you told me I could only bring one into the afterlife it would be Obscured by Clouds.Goober McTuber wrote:A nice little album that barely cracked the Billboard Top 50. Re: Syd Barrett
Except they didn't have the material. Most of the material for WYWH and Animals was already in a presentable format by late 74. Then next to nothing happened creatively until Waters spit on that fan in Montreal and lost his mind.Papa Willie wrote:. My only problem with WYWH and Animals was that they weren’t double albums. Would have loved to have heard more from the roll they were on in that time period.
