Political psychology
Many of you spend time every day arguing right vs left. But have you stopped to examine why ? Are you an impulsive slave to this sort of tribalistic bickering? Are you just killing time? Trolling? Do you have some greater purpose, a passionate belief to prove YOUR opinion is the RIGHT opinion?
I'm not interested in continuing the liberal vs conservative argument/conversation. I want to move beyond that and understand WHY you do it. So...why?

Re: Political psychology
Why do most of us come here? To waste a bit of time, laugh at our fellow humans, feel a bit better about ourselves, check in with “friends”, etc.

Re: Political psychology
I just come here to listen to "the stupids"who bitch about the people from San Francisco who provide every resource to bitch on the internet... yet, aren't smart enough to know that those same people are the only reason they can post their complainants on the internet.
Without the San Francisco Bay Area... you're pretty much living in a cave and punching numbers off a plastic phone and hoping someone hears you.
You don't have the internet without the San Francisco Bay Area.
It's a simple FACT... the simpletons with a lower IQ have failed to grasp.

Good day !
...and be good to yourselves.

I argue about politics because I am a staunch traditionalist and moral absolutist. I believe in the tried and true time tested ways and values that have served mankind for millennia and reject change for change’s sake. In large part I believe my particular world view and those who agree with me is shrinking on a daily basis, therefore in a small way I fight against that on this board and other forums.
And I have lurked on this and every previous board since SC3 so I feel as I know most of you in one guise or another.

But you vote for politicians who view clean water and clean air as being bad for business. Funny how that works, ya hypocrite.88 wrote:No one wants dirty water, dirty air

That's right. Death panels, baby! The government's gonna pull the plug on granny!
Re: Political psychology
It usually comes down to good intentions versus the logical and/or proven outcome of any policy topic.
One side has historically been proven to only focus on the first, and anyone else who brings up the second is automatically disqualified from the first.
Affirmative Action
Minimum Wage
Gun Control
Welfare
Taxes
Universal Healthcare
Free College
And on and on...

Re: Political psychology
You are, of course, correct, 88. A prime example would be an oil company like Exxon which get an automatic bad rap for being an energy company, an oil company. The premise is simple: Any company in any industry that uses natural resources and extracts those resources for human use is irresponsible for doing so. Never mind that a company like Exxon employs a myriad of people skilled in protecting the environment and safe guarding the location where the oil is extracted, they are guilty or complicit in polluting the world in multiple ways despite it being in their best interests to protect the land or water that they are developing for reasons ranging from the obvious (profit) to the continuation of the company itself.
It’s a simplistic view of the world and quite naive, but it is easier to wrap one’s mind around the small parameters of Us = good, Them = bad than to examine the arguments objectively and make an informed opinion on such topics as developing ANWAR or the oil fields off the coast of California.
This applies to all manner of subjects, the gist of the arguments being lost long before a debate can be had because the ending or result was a foregone conclusion.

I remember when basically there was no plug to pull on anyone.Maybe we were better off not even having to consider those options. As we approach being able to sustain life from conception, I hope we can once and for all end abortion. After all, our Constitution supposedly promotes LIFE as well as liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I'm glad I have all three, let's extend it to everyone else, born or yet to be born.
