He was excellent, and easily the best of SNL at the time.
But better than Belushi?
Nahhh.

Adam Sandler - probably the most unfunny “comedian” in past 50 years.

I'm sure you think Bob Hope is funnier then Lenny Bruce... so, it's all good my Catholic Boy.

They’re both as dead as Farley, from what I hear. But still a lot funnier than Sandler.

Re: chris farley
I will say this much for Sandler.
He was likely the funniest of his SNL contemporaries.
That is more a statement on the downfall of a once great show, than a comment about Sandler's comedic talents which are rather thin and very quickly become old.

Re: chris farley
This is a dumb discussion because it just comes down to age. The folks we first started seeing on SNL were likely the most influential on us.
That said Chevy Chase is the clear best when it came to SNL and after. Fletch is likely the greatest movie of all time.

Re: chris farley
Sandler was great for his generation, and before he started focusing on shitty mass marketed movies that would make him super rich. Happy Gilmore was great. Billy Madison was funny when I was 14 but hasn't really held up over the years.

Re: chris farley
He's certainly worthy of consideration, but there's some stiff competition from the likes of Tracy Morgan, Samantha Bee, Kenan Thompson, Conan O'Brien (although his writing on The Simpsons was good), et al. Current SNL cast member Alex Moffatt is ok in the sketches he does on the show, but his standup act is brutally unfunny.Mikey wrote:Adam Sandler - probably the most unfunny “comedian” in past 50 years.

The first generation of SNL is heads and shoulders above the rest. You are a bit younger than I, so you likely did not see that version "live", yet you recognize their greatness. I suspect your first exposure was Eddie Murphy, who pretty much singlehandedly dragged it back to respectability for a while.
My SNL HOF would be the original cast, Murphy, Farley......and uh, maybe Dana Carvey. Sorry Adam, you ain't in.

Re: chris farley
My under-the-radar pick would be Darrell Hammond, who was the show's best impersonator and is now its announcer. One of the few areas of agreement I have with Trump is that Hammond did a far better impersonation of him than Alec Baldwin does. I saw Hammond do standup, and while it wasn't the most hilarious act I've seen, it wasn't bad.smackaholic wrote:My SNL HOF would be the original cast, Murphy, Farley......and uh, maybe Dana Carvey. The original was the best. But it is age relative, because when we watched it we were usually intoxicated or getting there, and smoking a lot of weed. That with the comedy left you rolling on the floor sometimes, if we did not nod off before the show was over.smackaholic wrote:

Good pull. Then again, it wasn't called "Saturday Night Live" until a couple years later. And the first couple of episodes didn't have comedy sketches.Smackie Chan wrote:No love for Bill Murray?smackaholic wrote:

Quick, without looking it up -- who were the first musical guests(since I just happened upon this in the last couple of weeks)?
