So what have all you Warren Buffet wanna-bes been doing?

Have any of you actually made moves in an attempt to benfit from this roller coaster?

Seems like you could have made a ton these last few months.....if you timed it right, or lost your fukking shirt, if you didn't.

I have done what I think is the only sensible thing for someone who isn't a pro at this shit, which is tighten my seatbelt and enjoy the ride, with the hopes that when I do need to start tapping it in a decade or so, it's in good shape. Till then I will continue to plow as much as i can into it and cross my fingers.

We have been doing the same. We put the same money in each month and don't plan to touch it for another 20 plus years. A small percentage goes to a trader who does a good bit of day trading. The way our agreement with him is, he only makes money if we do. So each quarter we sit down and look at the paper balances and he gets a percentage of the growth after expenses. If we don't make money, neither does he.

But even at that your 15% number means little. How about we look at it since the day I started investing. In that case it is up 512%. There are some good times. It is probably up quite a bit more for the start dates for other in here given their age.

"Buy and hold" is a viable strategy, but it isn't alway sound.

For example, the Dow began a decline in the summer of 1966 and it took until 1982 for it to reach bottom.
It did not again reach the 1966 level until... 1995.

Think about that.
That is 30 years -- and how much inflation has taken place?

Buy and hold folks got SLAMMED.
