I actually do believe that HS rail in the Washington-DC corridor makes sense. And the moment someone other than the fed gubmint does it, it will replace flying.

But for transcontinental travel, jets aren’t being replaced anytime soon. HS rail speeds seem to top out somewhere around 300 mph, or half the speed of jets.

This rough draft as Screwy calls it is a liberal wet dream. It talks about ensuring the jobs go to union workers and living wages are paid. It also talks about individual farms and emission free farming and ranching. Eliminating air travel for high speed rail.

Hell CA one of the more liberal states is struggling with rail projects. But suddenly in a decade all the red tape and PETA and Sierra Club lawsuits are going to vanish. Land owners are just going to willing hand over millions of acres for these rail lines.

Granted this rough draft is nothing but a resolution that means as much as recognizing the birth of some lawmakers grandchild. But the glaring omission of any plans to pay for this wet dream is telling.
