He has already been caught telling blatant lies, such as the one on Air Force One where he said he had no knowledge of hush money payments.

Among many other things, Cohen brought a copy of a $35,000 check (dated 8/1/17, 6 months into Don's presidency) that Cohen says is one of 11 installments Don made to Cohen to reimburse him for the illegal hush money payment he made for the purpose of defrauding the American voters.

Cohen stood up there today, told what happened, and showed the check as evidence of it.
And that is all a lie?

Why is he lying, concocting a story, and even going so far as to show tangible evidence (a check)?
It puts him at a lot of peril if it is all just a wild story.

And we know that Don has already lied blatantly about the situation.
