He had a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET), a less virulent and more treatable form of the disease. Believe he had a Whipple procedure to remove the head of the pancreas, the duodenum, the gallbladder and the bile duct.

Stage 4 means it's spread to other parts of the body, so I doubt that a Whipple procedure would be enough to get Alex out of the woods even if it is the type that Wilko had. It's likely there'll soon be an opening for a game show host.
