So, apparently some guy helped rich people get their spawn into prestigious universities. That this devalues any particular university’s degree is a discussion for another day, but the gist is that parents were paying up to $6.5 million to get B List Actress or Actor’s D earning child into a school. It seems that this is a bribe somehow and is illegal.

The result is that the Boston FBI Office is charging a bunch of people with the crime of giving away their money to schools to get their dummies into them at prices which far exceed the actual tuition just so they can have the bragging rights of saying, “I graduated from Hah-vahd.”

Why is this a scandal? Elite private schools have been admitting students when daddy donates a new library to the school. Has been happening for 100+ years.

It sounds like this “service” had others pose as the students for some exams. That sure rings as all sorts of illegal.

I've always been under the impression that if you donated to the university or quarterback club it was understood that you had an inside track to get your kid accepted to these schools. Am I wrong here?

Furthermore, Asians, for instance, regularly score better on entrance exams than other minorities but do not necessarily gain access despite their grades and test scores. Doesn't this equate to the same thing when less qualified students are granted entrance to Yale than the better scoring Asian?

Asians tend to have more options if they can't get into their school of choice. Most of them could set up shop and make watches from used bicycle pumps.

All that being sadi, most young people would probably be better off in the long run if their parents got them a pick up truck/van and a set of tools and they get into a trade.

There are a ton of wannbe fuck ups out there thinking they are in the trades. Can't pass drug tests to make the real money, fired one of them off my job today. Right now the only real good spot to be in the trades is electrician or plumber. Protected trades. There are ways to make a living in the other trades but that is where the money is. Excavation, utilities are pretty good too, a couple of skilled people can make 120K a year each pretty easy with no employees. Electricians and plumbers can make 120 plus a year, but have to put in 4 years of school and apprenticeship

The Messicians have taken over most of the unskilled trades, with the Russians running a real close second. They will work for shit, cheat you blind on the jobs and do slop work. The lazy ass millennial who are the project managers have no balls to manage the project and the scabs run their ass over. Times are good right now, but someday it will suck again and a lot of people will be unemployed.

Ok, it turns out that these people gave money to a fixer who bribed various college administrators, coaches, and SAT/ACT testers who in turn awarded scholarships to the donors’ kids. Definitely illegal. My impression upon first reading about this was that they had merely purchased a slot for their kid via donations to the school.

IMO, it is just a different form of the same injustice.

I am sure that building offshore windmills is a bad idea in most places, as it is a bad idea in a lot of areas they are built. But I am equally sure that Ted supported the rest of them. He didn't want it because added navigational challenges is a bad thing when you are sailing with a BAC over .3.

The question is if we implemented any of the proposed "fixes" that have been proposed, can science definitively tell us exactly what would occur and when it would occur? You know, sciency shit. If you can conclusively say that X occurs because of an addition of greehouse gases, then your science is only valid if you can tell us what will happen if we switch to X-Y. And you can't. No one can. That is why it isn't science. It is religion.

Of course they can’t. They can’t even get their models they are using to “predict” the future, to back into actual results. So they can’t replicate the past, but by all means we should put all of our eggs in the basket the models tell us we should.

We have altered the atmosphere by pumping a good bit of CO2 into the atmosphere. From this, there is one effect that we can be certain of - shit grows better. We have essentially fertilized the atmosphere.

Any other effect is debatable. It MAY have a small effect on temp. This may/may not be a good thing.

What 88 and most everyone who looks at this with any level of honesty has said is, the erf appears to be warming as we come out of the latest ice age. This warming trend has bumps in it.

A few hundred years ago we looked to be headed back into one.

A few thousand years ago, the Romans planted vineyards in Scotland. This is proof of a lasting period of temps above today's.

40 years ago "the experts" said we were plunging back into the ice age, despite being nearly 2 centuries into the industrial revolution.

Then we had a 20 year run of apparent warming, which, looking back on it, is prolly part real warming and part "adjusting" the data.

The last 20 years, the warming appears to have stalled. There is hard evidence out there of the AGW faithful pointing this out and discussing how they can hide it.

Where we have disagreement is on the following topics...

So, it's warming, as it has been doing for roughly 20K years. Is the last 200 years worth of a long term trend due to our pissing into the atmospheric pool? Would it have magically leveled off at some magical preferred temp?

Is warming good? Cold continues to kill far more humans than heat. Vast swaths of the erf that happen to be located above sea level are located in areas that will become more habitable as it warms. Relatively small parts will become less so.

Is a higher level of this poison know as CO2 in the atmosphere a good thing?

Fauna will be unaffected.

Flora will love it.

There has been a measurable greening effect over the last half century. Greenhouses have been pumped full of CO2 for years because their owners didn't sleep through grade school science classes where they learned that plants actually like that shit.

And lastly we come to the AGW faithful's holy grail. That the erf climate system is a positive feedback system. They need it for their alarmism. The fact that a planet that has been continually habitable for many millions of years MUST have a negative feedback mechanism in conveniently ignored. If CO2 caused warming would result in a runaway effect and turn us into Venus, it would have already happened.
