CODAC
It wasn't long ago we had a discussion about what to do with heroin junkies. It appears Providence RI has it figured out.
CODAC is a non profit that works with inmates and those on parole/probation. When addicts are arrested and incarcerated for heroin and other opioids, they're enrolled in medical assisted treatment and are given a choice of three drugs (methadone, suboxone, or vivitrol) to help ween them off the crap. Treatment continues after they are released and might continue for the rest of their lives. 93% of released inmates follow up with the program, and inmates over doses after they are released are way down. Seems like a program that should go nation wide.
i found out about the program watching the video below.
It is similar to what we've seen on SF, but at about 45 minutes in they talk about CODAC. Many of the people on the program are thankful, stating they would probably be dead without it.

Re: CODAC
Another interesting point the above video makes is the woman who lives in a tent city admitting that most living in the shanty towns are drug addicts with the remaining small percentage being mentally ill.

Re: CODAC
I think there is something deeper at play here and that is an aversion to pain. Granted, this is a universal condition to mankind, but modern Americans seem to be unwilling to tolerate any kind or amount of pain, be that physical, psychological, or emotional discomfort. We medicate immediately upon sensing any unease, reaching for things as common as alcohol or Tylenol to heroin. Marijuana use for the sake of avoiding reality is now gaining mainstream acceptance without us asking why we need to self medicate.
Add to this the psychic and emotional isolation modern technology has delivered to us with smartphones and our need to become oblivious to it all points to a vast emptiness within us.

Re: CODAC
Hard to argue the solution to this point, no shanty towns in Providence, and addicts in treatment. That's as good as it gets.

I think I am actually with queerland on this one.
Legalize it.
Every last fukking bit of it.
I think pure heroin should be for sale, OTC, at CVS.
Let Darwin sort the fukkers out.

Re: CODAC
You're full of ignorant statements that of course are wrong. Again. The video above states any drug in possession of 3 grams or less is legal in Seattle.

Re: CODAC
Seattle and SF doesn't arrest heroine users/poopers at all. In Seattle only 18% of those arrested for property crimes go to trial. This segment of the population (drug addicts) are ignored by city officials.

Re: CODAC
There is nothing more stupid than arguing about applicable laws when city administrators tell police and prosecutors not to enforce those laws. Take a look at the video I posted, or do your own research, but to continue down this same path only illustrates how out of touch you are.Kierland wrote:So what? Re: CODAC
PW your plan only works if these people are executed outright. As it is, in Seattle all drugs are legal within city limits if a person has 3 grams or less. Supposedly an amount that is for personal use, even though 3 grams of heroin equals about 30 doses. Users and dealers are not arrested in Seattle, unless they have more than the 3 gram limit. Shanty town tent cities are only growing more numerous in Seattle with basically the policy you endorse.

Re: CODAC
Yes there is, arguing that not enforcing laws makes things legal. It doesn’t, and without drugs being legal it is way harder to help people. You are an idiot just like you were yesterday and just like you will be tomorrow.Joe in PB wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 3:05 pmThere is nothing more stupid than arguing about applicable laws when city administrators tell police and prosecutors not to enforce those laws. Which shows that not enforcing laws some laws really doesn’t help. Re: CODAC
Well first off some are enforced. What if I want to by a keg err. I mean an oz.? What if they change their mind and arrest me? What about the drugs being dirty because they are sold illegally? What about all the stigma that comes with that? It’s almost not better than having them illegal.

Re: CODAC
I understand the video is long, but you obviously haven't read or understand what I have posted.
In Seattle no one carries more than 3 grams, hence the reason there are no arrests or prosecutions.
In SF heroin use on the street is not enforced, nor is peeing/pooing in public.
So the shanty town tent cities continue to grow in size.
