Trump actually did the correct thing in this case which is say that he hopes this can be worked out amicably.

If there is any influence we might have it is with trade sanctions. And Trump is the first President ever to use that as a tool against China.

Kinda surprised they've allowed some level of autonomy in HK as long as they have, but I suspect HK probably pays close to half the country's taxes.
