This big black Dick hit a ball harder than anyone I've ever seen when playing for the White Sox. Anaheim Stadium, early '70s - dude hit a line drive that seemed to clear the pitcher's head by ~ 2 feet. Didn't actually start to rise until it was above the outfield, and left the yard in what seemed like 2 seconds. They didn't measure exit velocity then, but that thing musta been traveling 150 mph. Absolutely crushed it.

I saw Carlton Fisk bounce one off the top of the green monster which appeared to still be going up. I am quite sure it would have been out of any other park in the league. This was a double. Might have even been a single if the left fielder played it well. Plus Carlton wasn’t the fastest guy.

When I was growing up watching the Giants, Willie McCovey used to hit a lot of balls like that. Many balls that rebounded off the right field fence so hard he had to stop at first base.

First time I heard the song was performed live; studio version is on an album called "Of Monkees and Men, which is a tribute album to The Monkees. The Minus 5 has had about as many members as five Deep Purples, which as you know is sayin' something. When I saw them, Peter Buck (R.E.M.) was on bass, and Kurt Bloch (guitar) and Linda Pitmon (drums), both of whom are in the video, were members. They opened for Alejandro Escovedo, and then were his backing musicians during the concert as The Burn Something Beautiful Band. "Blue Rickenbacker" was the 2nd song they played, and stood out as one of the more memorable tunes of their set.

An offshoot of The Minus 5 is The Baseball Project, whose songs all have to do w/ the national pastime. Check 'em out if so interested.
