"a genuine belief by the Brits that Saddam did in fact have WMD and that he might unleash them on allied forces if we attacked."
You know what I always thought strange?
During the invasion and subsequent push to Baghdad, coalition forces didn't have on chemical/biological suits.
For an enemy they feared was ready to launch chemical weapons at any second, I considered that highly suspect.
Oh, and, fuck off. You watched the news just like the rest of us.
Troops weren't suited up for NBC warfare. Don't lie.

My money is on the following.
Troops avoid wearing those bulky logistically debilitating suits unless they absolutely have to.
Had WMD been used, the troops drill putting those things on in a timely fashion. If it's nuke and you're at ground zero .... those suits won't protect you.
Yeah, my money is on that. The fact we didn't see pictures on the news of troops wearing them doesn't mean a damn thing in regards to the fears and potential the enemy had WMD.

With all the horseshit around here, you'd think there'd be a pony somewhere.

They wore gas masks about 20 hours a day, nimrod. You don't remember all of the invasion footage with our soldiers in masks? You don't remember Geraldo doing his report with a gas mask on?
The full-on chemical suits aren't used in that type of environment because chemical weapons are largely ineffective, unless it's a cool day with zero wind (which in Iraq is never). In any other conditions, the chemical cloud just blows up and/or away.

"Have to" being defined as the moment an officer says "Get in the damn suits".Tom In VA wrote:My money is on the following.

It was a damn bitter bile bukkake of WMD fears when they didn't find any.Had WMD been used, the troops drill putting those things on in a timely fashion. I'm sure the field commanders had fears of WMDs. They don't gather or anaylize the intel, they just get what they "need to know".
